The orginial SDF-1 did not have sea going ship till after there 1st fold test which took them to pluto at that time they were salavaging what they could use from the part of the island that was took with them. They took the ships because of steel an space. Its easier to use what around them. an the ship them self became ramming tools for mass atack missiles swarms

Yes the american Version (Robotech) There are Two Aircraft Carriers attached after the first episode (Prometheus and Daedalus). In the Japanese Version Macross Do Yo Remember love the arms are shown as Armor Class Carriers.

I may try to build an Armor Class Carrier With its Fighter Complment, but I have no clue what the Interior is like and will be hard to find some good pictures of the ship and fighters.
