Thump Cannon Nerf

Description
The Termite mechanoid wields a unique thump cannon which has damage multipliers for structures of as high as 60x damage, 15 for the multiplier on the damage, and 4 for the multiplier on the wall which stacks.

I'm sure that some degree of challenge is intended, but as the attached gif shows it means that the thump cannon can arbitrarily blow through vanilla walls of any strength, gouging huge chunks straight out of your defenses without there really being any valid response aside from killing it as fast as you possibly can. Granite and plasteel walls shouldn't be disintegrating en masse to a single shot from a weapon with the range of a rifle.

It's fine to introduce some counter-play for killboxes, but I'm not really excited about the fact that it completely negates any level of cover. Even if you don't play with killboxes the Termites thump cannon punishes you for doing literally anything except a colonial-era military march across an open field at your foes.

This mod nerfs the damage multipliers for the thump cannon by a factor of 2, so it's still an awesomely powerful weapon against structures, but it's not going to treat solid blocks of Plasteel like you built out of plywood, and sufficiently thick walls can help slow a Termite, even if not nearly as well as other mechanoids.

If anyone would like different values, it's extremely trivial to edit this, being such a simple patch file. Just open the ThumpCannonNerf.xml file in the mod, and then change the values inside. Vanilla has 15/7.5 for the two damage types. I went with 7.5/4 for about half damage. If you want one third you could do 5/2.5, or even lower. Or hell, crank it up to 30/15 and just let those Termites shred your base like confetti.

Optional Range Nerf
I didn't want to pre-emptively nerf the hell out of the range for the Thump Cannon, but some people think that it should be shorter than it is by default. If you're one of them, feel free to open up the Patch file in this mod and edit the value in the third and final Patch Operation. Right now it just replaces the range factor from 8 to 8, but if you set it to something lower then Termites will have to approach closer to use their Thump Cannons.

Oh, didn't even notice I hadn't actually updated it.

Since this mod has been reported working in 1.5 I added it to the No Version Warning-mod

Haven't looked, but I'd be absolutely astonished if it stopped working in 1.5. The critical trait of this mod is that it takes an existing value relating to how much damage a Thump Cannon does to structures and patches it to cut it in half. Unless they nerf Thump Cannons into the dirt so hard that this becomes a buff (which is really unlikely) then this mod will basically never break.

If they ever completely refactored how damage is calculated there might be a concern, but they've literally never touched it since the day it came out except to implement a minor nerf on their end.

When 1.5 gets closer I'll revalidate my mods and slap the new tag on them. I'm working on Stardew Valley right now because their 1.6 actually came out, so I'm not super interested in doing a bunch of alpha-testing over here.

Should this mod still work for 1.5, I assume no major changes to the code relating to thump cannons have been made but I haven't checked myself

Thank you, I know after fhat first nerf years ago, I still used mods to nerf it. (still was strong even then)

But I am getting back into the game, and I mod to add flavor, to increase options but also increase difficulty.
Sometimes, that makes vanilla mechanics.....both harder and easier depending on what. The cannon made things much harder, a little nerf feels fine.

@Enlonwhite Lol, someone asked about this a couple years ago when the nerf actually happened. Not sure if it happened again, but basically they deal with different values. Unless they absolutely nerfed the vanilla Thump Cannon into the dirt in like three different places, this will still make it weaker than it is in vanilla.

I am still going to use the mod, but didnt the Thump Cannon get a nerf in game?

@roko711 it's a patch to the Thump Cannon itself, so it works on anything that uses it, modded or not.

does this work with VFE mechanoids
