Odeillo Station

Description
BA, T2, Unlock Level 12, Class 2

Orbital solar furnace, upgradable

Built for Vanilla and Reforged scenarios

So what happens when you arrange 15,000 micro hexagonal heliostats in a concave array and focus a star's light rays through a pentaxid-infused lens? You end up with a 4,000° C plasma beam that can melt any known metal in seconds. Odeillo Station puts the clean, unlimited power of a star to use smelting any ore you can throw at it. It captures enough solar energy to power its four furnaces indefinitely without using a drop of fuel, though generator backup is available to keep the station operational through maintenance cycles. With separate 320k storage units for input and output you can drop off several asteroids' worth of ore and come back to stacks of fully-processed pure ingots ready for easy pickup.

Odeillo Station is a dedicated solar-powered orbital furnace. If placed within 2.5 au of a star it will generate enough solar power to run the four included furnaces continuously. The station is upgradable to T3 so you can add additional constructors and/or deconstructors for material processing once your ingot runs are complete. Upgrade instructions are provided on an LCD in the lower engineering section.

When spawning stare directly at the center of the sun for maximum solar efficiency. I don't care what your mom told you, you'll be fine.

I designed this as more of an RP POI rather than a completely useful player base. It has all the basic amenities (a large constructor, living space with fridge / food processor, O2 station, armor locker) but it isn't expandable to be a fully-featured home. You have no pre-defined space for things like a farm, extra cargo, or any defenses. It was intended to be a wifi-accessed furnace drop that runs completely off of solar power, and it does that exceptionally well. But it uses a lot of steel and concrete so it's expensive for its role. I kept the size class as low as I could though so if you can afford it you can offload all of your ore processing and perhaps some deconstructor duties from your main starbase, or set up a cool remote processing center for your faction use.

Initially designed for the July Anvil Designers Challenge, which was to make a function-specific drop base under size-class 3. Though I kept it at the size-class limit I did not submit it because I feel it is too expensive for the "drop base" concept.

Named after the solar furnace in Odeillo, France. Look it up, it's cool. And by cool, I mean hot.

Uses a modified LCD from sulusdacor

@teakeycee Absolutely. Thank you for asking first.

May I convert this into a hostile POI and/or a space wreck? I will cite you as the author, and link to this workshop page, on my YouTube video.
