Rocinante

Description
The Rocinante.

My version of the Rocinante from James.S. A .Corey’s series “the Expanse”.

“The Rocinante ("Roci") is a Corvette Class fast-attack light frigate with multiple roles, such as torpedo bomber and boarding party insertion.
It was the smallest naval ship equipped with an Epstein drive when it was originally called the Tachi and was stationed as a fleet escort vessel and torpedo bomber on the Martian navy vessel Donnager. Her normal crew complement was over a dozen navy personnel and officers, and on many missions she’d also carry six marines.”

- expanse.wikia.com

The Rocinante, claimed as salvage by James Holden following the destruction of the martian carrier Donnager is a light frigate that following the second book in the series Calibans War received several aftermarket upgrades.
The Rocinante is a work horse, plain and simple. Pulling its crew from the brink of destruction more than once the ship has proven to be more than capable of out manoeuvring and out fighting far bigger opponents.

In Corey’s series the ships are not pretty, far from it, most look like office blocks in space. This is due to the fact that they achieve their gravity by constantly accelerating at 9.8ms (earth normal gravity) this gives the occupants the feeling of gravity achieved by thrust instead of spin gravity. Because of this design requirement floors are stacked on top of one another, the floor always parallel to the direction of thrust.

At halfway between their origin and destination ships spin through 180 degrees and accelerate towards their origin at 9.8ms again providing gravity while also decelerating the ship before it arrives at its intended target.
Point defence cannons defend the Rocinante from incoming torpedo fire while forward mounted rockets allow offensive capability.

My first go at building a ship that already exists within fiction, big thank to Jeff Zugale who’s design of the Rocinante inspired me to have a go at building this model. Though his design seemed far too beautiful for how I felt the ‘Roci’ whould look.

Controls - To activate the Epstien Drive turn on the two 'Epstien Masses' in the control panel. Probably best to be in the pilots seat when you do this.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated,

Pretty close to what I thought when I read the books, nice one!

Ah ok then I'm sorry. I personally can't wait to see some more UN ships and space battles on the series.

@leo312 Hey, This model was made long before the tv series came. In my mind this is still how the Roci looks, i find the one in the tv series looks a bit squat and not so much like the Chisel+Coffee cup reference that was made in the book series.
Still, glad to see a great book series come to life!

@leo312 This is based on the book, and not the show

Imo it doesn't look like the Rocinante at all.

i know its how it works in the movie and in the books but this whole gravity through propulsion thing flipping every thing 90 degrees is so strange :D other then that great build
