DDR V2 - Barracked People's Police (1948-1956)

The Barracked People's Police (German: Kasernierte Volkspolizei), or KVP, was the quasi-military of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) from 1948-1956. Founded in 1948 by special order of the Soviet Military Administration of Germany, this unit was tasked with the suppression of civil unrest as well as for use in military exercise. The most notable of such duties being in 1953, when the KVP aided Red Army Forces in suppressing large-scale protests in the country. The uniforms of the KVP, in stark contrast to the later NVA, resembled that of the Red Army and other Eastern Bloc Militaries. After the foundation of the Bundeswehr by West Germany, the KVP would be converted into the National People's Army in 1956 and its policing duties would fall upon the newly-formed Volkspolizei-Bereitschaften.
