Dornier Do-31

Description
The Do-31 is the world's only STOL/VTOL Jet Transport which whilst seeming futuristic, is actually 59 years old. The VTOL came with 3 designations; E1, E2, and E3. E1 was a stripped down prototype with only the Bristol Pegasus engines. The E2 was just the airframe and never took flight. The E3 was the complete version of the plane with its full compliment of 8x Rolls-Royce RB162 Lift Jets and Bristol Pegasus engines. The Do-31 by 1967 was to meet it's design objectives but some flaws, lessening of priority and nobody to help shoulder development costs ended up getting the project cancelled in 1970.

Real statistics:
Max Range: 1,200km
Max Speed: 730km/h
Cruise Speed: 650km/h
Crew: Two
Capacity: 36 troops or 24 casualty stretchers or 3 willys jeeps and 3,500 kg (7,715 lb) useful load
Gross weight: 22,453 kg (49,500 lb) (VTOL)
Max takeoff weight: 27,422 kg (60,500 lb)
Powerplant: 2 × Rolls-Royce Pegasus BE.53/2 turbofan, 68.95 kN (15,500 lbf) thrust each
Powerplant: 8 × Rolls-Royce RB162-4D Vertically mounted turbojet lift engines, 19.57 kN (4,400 lbf) thrust each
Length: 20.53 m
Wingspan: 18m
Height: 8.53 m

Stormworks statics:
Max Range: 470km
Max Speed: 648km/h
Cruise Speed: 250km/h
Crew: 2
Capacity: 36 troops, small vehicles (e.g: 3 willys jeeps)
Max RPM Total Power: 24000RPM

Features:
- VTOL Pitch Trim
- VTOL Roll Trim
- Autothrottle which sets lever to set RPS
- Altitude Hold
- Autopilot
- Changeable Gyros (1st pre-set gyro is smoother, 2nd is shakier but more reliable)
- Ability to fly with 1-2 engines destroyed
- Tool kits just behind the winches
- Service Hatches to lift jets

Takeoff Procedures:
Start up Main engines and set the throttle to 20 RPS, then when you are out of the hangar, turn on VTOL mode. Then throttle down to 16 RPS and then turn on lift jets and open the lift jet fairings. Set the lift jet throttle also to 16 RPS and lift off to a minimum of 100ft off the ground and then retract landing gear and turn off VTOL mode, once maintaining a steady altitude, turn off the lift jet fuel pumps and the lift jets. Then close the fairings.

Landing Procedures:
Open the fairings and turn on the lift jet fuel pumps, then turn on the lift jets and wait till the RPM is above 900RPM and then transition into VTOL mode, then lower the landing gear and descend until touch down, then turn off all systems.

Notes:
The VTOL mode isnt very stable and I tried my best to get it as stable as can be. When landing, make sure the lift jets are at 900+ RPM before transitioning into VTOL mode. For the lift jets to turn on, the lift jet fairings are fully opened and when out of VTOL flight, make sure the fairings are fully closed to achieved a higher speed.
When not in VTOL mode, set RPS to 20, when in VTOL mode, set RPS to 16. The autothrottle is a primitive so if it doesnt set the engine lever to the designated RPS, tap the lever until the RPS required has been achieved.
