yeah, seems like special project spawning is borked somehow, I think it's supposed to spawn somewhere other than your home system. Got the trace, it reveals another system far from my home system, but the special project's in a random planet in my home system.

Seems like a pretty harsh ending, for being able to do it only a couple of years into the game. And in your home system to boot.
