[SP/CO-07] Dardanelles 06 Rout!

[SP/CO-8] Operation Dardanelles

Description
Rout! Enemy Forces are in full rout, using boats and helicopters departing from the airfield. They have a strong fortified bottleneck protecting their egress, so a sniper team will seize the heights overlooking the airfield, and track and kill the OPFOR battalion commander before he escapes.

No, the sniper team was attacked before they even fired a shot. I don't know what exactly happened, but they said that the position that was supposed to be cleared by Voodoo team was still hot. MIGHT be that it was an ASR AI/ACE thing; we're using both, and it tends to make the AI much more aggressive than it usually is in Vanilla.

I know what you mean about the briefings. I am always struggling myself, not wanting to bore people with pages of briefing but not wanting to miss any important information. It's an art form in itself, and I more than once failed at it :)

Yeah, my greatest challenge in missions is making clear what the mission plan is. In this case the Sniper team takes up position and holds fire. Diversionary team hits the west side of the airfield and causes the Commander to leave his hiding spot. Sniper takes out the Commander before he escapes. There isn't really a reason to have a helo around, even a Pawnee.

If the sniper is being swarmed, it probably means that he started shooting random soldiers (it's tempting considering there are like 50 of em in the base), instead of keeping quiet until the Commander appears.

I suppose to keep it coop friendly, I can make the west side of the base more fortified, giving the diversion team something more to chew on while the sniper scans for Commander.

That and properly identifying Tasks.

Thanks again. This mission is damn near 4 years old, and glad to see it still gets some playtime :)

Looks like it was a test version then, because there certainly was a Comanche in it :)
But really, the mission is fine, it just needs a few adjustments. Replacing the Comanche with an AH-9 could be fun, with the HMG's around that is dangerous waters for the pilot. And most of the issues arose from the briefing not being clear.

Seriously, with a few adjustments there is a good mission in it.

Hey guys, thanks for comments. I think I accidentally got a test or temporary version onto steam when I last updated. There should be no Commanche at all in this mission!

The mission was frankly built too much with single player (as the sniper) in mind. With only a single shot required.

I think I'll fix it and re-release as SP only. Trying to shoehorn a coop experience is not really working.

Hey WeaponsFree, thanks for the mission! I have to agree with Alwarren's remarks below. There was lot of confusion of who does what, where start location is, what team is what.

It has potential for good mission though and thanks for the effort!

I got some remarks about the mission. First of all, I do like the setup, but as it is now, the infantry teams are pointless. The Comanche can take out anything at the base without any trouble.

The sniper team was wiped out at the very start of the mission, even though Voodoo team was supposed to clear them out. i late saw a group of at least 10-12 men swarm up to their position.

Also, the briefing was unclear. It did not specify were we started, and in fact, we did not know that our team was supposed to be the diversionary attack.

I think with a bit of extra work this can be an awesome mission. I would for example remove the Comanche and replace it with an AH-9. That will force cooperation between the ground and air team. Also, ranged optics for the diversion team would be good, some guys had Colimator optics and could essentially do nothing.

Thanks for sharing it. I enjoyed the rest of the campaign, so far this was the only "weak" spot :)

Thanks for the mission.

@Liberty_Valance : You can finish the mission with one shot from the hilltop position. It's meant as a sniper mission where best results come from staying out of sight and waiting for the target. If the commander feels under threat (i.e. lots of incoming sniper fire on the base) he'll try to stay out of sight (Arma AI).

Sorry you didn't like the campaign. I agree it's difficult, but I feel I gotta point out I got some pretty good returns when I originally released it on Armaholic : http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21201#comments .

too many ennemies, not enough amunition, inefficient team, I spend hours trying to finish this scenario and at the end the guy cannot be found .... typically sloppy work
