Ifrit SAR

Description
"Kind of like piloting a spaceship, complete with deafening engine noise and backbreaking acceleration."

A high speed, ultra-long range SAR, fire response, exploration, or interdiction ship with a near future/sci-fi aesthetic. Designed for career mode with a crew of 1-3. All the workshop items I used should be linked in required items. If I have forgotten to credit anything I used I sincerely apologize and welcome any comments pointing out things I missed so I can add them. Likewise if something you made is used on this creation and you want it removed, please let me know and I'll do so.

Length: 33.75 m
Width: 5.5 m
Draw: 3 m
Height: 8.5 m (including mast)
Weight: ~22 metric tons, unfueled
Career mode cost: $225,895

Propulsion: 2x PID stabilized fluid jets
Engine: 12-turbine recycling jet
Top speed: 160 kt / 296 kph
Range @ top speed: 8000 km+
Fuel capacity: 79,000 L jet fuel only

Startup:
1) Head to bridge, sit in central seat labeled HELM.
2) Press 2 to slide seat forward to controls.
3) Turn key button labeled ENGINE COMPUTER.
4) Press touchscreen button at right hand labeled SYS (computers & bridge systems).
5) Press touchscreen button at right hand labeled NAV (navlights).
6) If necessary, press touchscreen button at right hand labeled MNV (maneuvering mode) and use arrow keys and touch controls on forward hud to navigate out of dock. Flip switch off to enable main propulsion.
7) Observe right hand HUD for engine startup progress. When startup is complete, press touchscreen button at right hand labeled JET (jet pumps).
8) Apply clutch pressure (70% for full speed.)
9) Adjust RPS throttle based on sea conditions.

Third party systems you might need help to operate, all located at HELM seat:
Spectrum M30 VHF by amaye (right small hud)
Dynamic Positioning by Hunter Falkner (left popup touchscreen]
Radio Beacon Location via Multilateration by Kyaace (left peripheral monitor)
Waypoint Autopilot by hostbanani (left peripheral monitor, flip switch at left hand labeled SWITCH MODE to toggle)
MNCS by Pufferfish and Neottious, as well as the HATS and MNCS LIDAR modules (central overhead monitor)

Tips for operation:
1) Turn gently at high speeds; I suggest feathering the keys if you steer using A/D.
2) The autopilot will flip the boat if you turn it on at high speed without first aligning to your course manually.
3) Setting the RPS higher than 25 doesn't really do anything as the fluid jets are maxed out by that point. Makes a cool noise, though.
4) When operating at low throttle/low clutch the jets lose a lot of their steering power, but this is fixed by turning the deflectors down to 0.85 or 0.75.
5) You can reverse by setting the deflectors <0.0, but I recommend using the maneuvering thrusters instead.
6) If your speed is fluctuating or if the ship is riding low in the water, open the top cabinet behind the right bridge seat, turn the red key button, and switch the red locked button off THEN BACK ON AGAIN. This resets the PID correction values and should fix the problem.
7) The same cabinet contains controls for manually tuning the derivative and integral values for the pitch stabilizer PID. These might be useful if you're trying to tow something at high speed or loading a bunch of cargo or a RHIB or something onto the deck.

FAQ
Q: Is this a hydrofoil?
A: No, it doesn't have any wing surfaces providing lift which makes it much more stable in rough seas. The spoiler on the back isn't made of wing pieces; it stabilizes the vessel by adding a small amount of drag, rather than downforce or lift.

Q: So how does this work?
A: I don't actually know, but my theory is that having the drag offset rearward and low while propulsion is offset below the center of mass creates competing forces that try to pull the bow down and up respectively. When those two balance with gravity just right this allows the boat to be suspended above the surface of the water without the use of any hydrofoil or wing surfaces. That's my theory, anyway.

Q: Can you make it go faster?
A: I tried adding a second pair of fluid jets and that raised the top speed up to around 220 knots, but I couldn't make it stable at that speed. Someone better at logic and PIDs than I am could probably make it work.

Q: How is it so efficient?
A: Lots of turbines + recycling the turbine exhaust back to the combustion chamber.

Q: What's up with the logic?
A: Don't look at the logic.

Q: I looked at the logic.
A: I warned you.

Q: Can you help me change or add to the logic?
A: No, good luck lol

Q: Will you be doing any more detailing on the interior?
A: Not unless they add more decoration blocks. But if you enjoy that kind of thing and feel like adding some detail to this I will happily update with your changes and list you as a contributor.

Shoutout to Kahrstrom for helping me tweak their PID stabilizer for this vessel and for uploading a fix for their generator controller when I was having trouble with it; and to Neottious for pumping out a new LIDAR module for their MNCS system

I was gonna do it, then, I saw what else I had to subscribe to. Now im not doing it

Nevermind previous comments :P

Oh wait it seems it only steers at full clutch :D

It seems that after I have used AP or mnvr, the steering doesn't work anymore in manual and sometimes even in AP. Only way to turn the ship is mnvr mode then. Don't know exactly when this happens.

its good but it needs some sort of collison avoidance, stuff comes at you quick and its not quick to stop or turn

can you make this as a hull?

I was just making fun buddy. Dont worry about it.

You don't actually have to subscribe to those things! They're on the boat already. That's just a list of the workshop items I used to make it.

Soo many things to sub to, to get the boat lol
