About the T-72:

The T-72 is a Soviet main battle tank that was built by the Uralwagonzavod company from 1972 and put into service by the Soviet Army and other Warsaw Pact armies. The T-72 is currently the most used main battle tank in the world.

About the T-72 in the GDR:

The NVA (Nationale Volksarmee | National peoples army of GDR) had 583 T-72 tanks, 447 normal T-72 and 136 T-72 M1. After the reunitification of the German democratic republic and the German federal repubic, the federal republc took 549 T-72 from the NVA and scrapped them or sold them to other countries or museums.
