Description:

An experimental four-legged mech for combat on terrain unsuitable for contemporary tracked and/or wheeled vehicles.
Starting out as a pet project from one of the engineers working on Project CAT, it was merely meant as a personal transport for crossing rugged terrain.
To the engineer's shock a couple of higher-ups discovered his designs, but he was pleasantly surprised when he was told he could continue development on it as an official project.
Even so, the project is still at an early stage, with the current version of the Bandit being a proof of concept meant for testing, as opinions about these kind of vehicles are rather divided.
This is reflected in its designation: The E stands for Experimental.

Features:

  • Meant for Creative: Turret has a barebones conveyor system, and only has three batteries and a reactor for power. There's a small part hinge at the rear for docking.
  • "Survival Ready": Technically works in Survival and has starting equipment and everything, but I don't recommend it.
  • Four independent legs that allow it to slide along the ground with a surprising amount of stability below 40 m/s.
  • Legs are designed to move in accordance to the (lack of) force applied to them, making it seem like its deliberately moving its legs during certain actions, such as bracing itself for a fall or decelerating/accelerating.
  • Head is placed on a hinge and is slaved to the turret, though it doesn't fire on its own.
  • It can be airdropped.
  • It also looks kinda cute.
  • Cleaned up terminal and hotbars.

Specifications:

  • Blocks - Main Grid: 121
  • Blocks - With Subgrids: 199
  • PCU - Main Grid: 2,080
  • PCU - With Subgrids: 4,780
  • Mass - Unloaded: 29,430 kg
  • Airtight: A single air vent collects oxygen for the cockpit.

Dimensions:
  • Length: 9.5 Meters.
  • Width: 9.5 Meters.
  • Height: 2.5 Meters.

Usage:
  • Role: Infiltrator, swarm attacker, proof of concept.
  • Area of Operation: Planets with an atmosphere.

Other:
  • For parking, simply increase the friction of the wheels. Up to 15% friction it remains quite mobile, raising the friction above that will prevent it from sliding away from anything but steep hills and such.
  • When being airdropped, try to stay parallel to the ground. The parachute can be opened at practically any point, but try to do so before you are 200 meters from the ground.
  • The rocket launchers are fired manually. Horizontal aiming is done by turning the body, and vertical aiming is done by the turret.

Author's Notes:

Just like with the Derzky, I got the idea for this while working on other stuff.
So naturally I stopped working on the other stuff and made this instead.
Also, the last picture is of an older version, there because it is my favourite of the bunch.

I absolutely L O V E this!!!!!, i've tried at least twice now to make a design like this and haven't quite made it... I'm gonna have to try making one similar to this.. probably won't be as good but there's only one way for me to find out! if it does end up working out I might post some screenshots here on steam

looks similar to the corrupter from horizon zero dawn, but without the sloped shell.

The Bandit was basically an attempt at making the Juggernaut in SE.
I think it ended up rather nice.

reminds me of a certain mech from 86

Glad you like it!
I was actually experimenting with bipedal mechs using the same method to move around, but it hasn't really been working out...

I'll likely give it a shot again at some point though!

The movement of these reminds nme a bit of the jump thrusters from Hawken. Man I miss that game. This concept could be really fun for fast paced mech type battles. Thank you for sharing!

neat, kinda reminds me of the Scrap-Metals from Transformers Cybertron
