Description
Fokker E.III Eindecker (1:1 Scale)

The Fokker E.III was the main variant of the Eindecker (literally meaning "one deck") fighter aircraft of World War I. It entered service on the Western Front in December 1915 and was also supplied to Austria-Hungary and Turkey.

Machine-gun synchronization, introduced with the appearance of the Fokker monoplane fighters (of which the E.III was the most popular model) in June 1915, changed, if not revolutionized, the war in the air. German pilots flying nimble, single-seat Fokker fighters armed with a fixed machine gun firing through the rotating airscrew arc gained lasting fame when they caught the Allies by surprise and took an alarming toll of British and French machines. In the process a new breed of warrior - the fighter ace - was born. Until countermeasures in the form of biplane fighters were forthcoming, British parliamentarians investigating the RFC's shortcomings referred to their 'defenceless' airmen as 'Fokker Fodder'.
