The Pirate Lord's Tasks
If this is your first time playing the game you'll first need to create your character in order to progress any further. Some items such as clothing, hair, tattoos and makeup can be changed at anytime but changing your characters gender or body will require the purchase of a Pirate Appearance Potion. One you've chosen your charater you'll then be prompted to begin the Maiden Voyage.

Once you awaken on the island The Pirate Lord will appear and walk you through a series of basic tasks to introduce you to the games systems.

First up you need to eat a banana.

Next you need to pick up the cutlass which you can see glowing on the tree just ahead of you on the right. Once you have your cutlass in hand do your best impression of Arya Stark and stick Mr. Skelly with the pointy end.

After this make your way down to the beach and speak to The Pirate Lord who will give you a shovel and a map and task you with retrieving his chest of booty.

Follow the instructions on how to view the map, follow it to the X and then dig up the treasure. If you're a sterotypical bloke and don't like to ask for directions then follow the beach round to the left and dig just in front of the grassy area besides the shipwreck.

Regarding Merfolk

Before returning the chest you can find the first of ten journals in the water just in front of the shipwreck door. Prior to Update 2.0.19.2 this journal was instead located inside the wreckage.

Once you have the chest in hand return to The Pirate Lord to acquire your Pirate Starter Kit™ and then cycle through some of your new gear.

At this point we can either speak to The Pirate Lord to set sail or explore the island further. We're going to opt for the latter. Before doing so we're going to access the Maiden Voyage Commendations so you can see what tasks lie ahead. To do so bring up your character screen, scroll along to Pirate Log, select Reputation and the Tall Tales and you'll find Maiden Voyage on the second page.
A Fine Catch & A Hearty Meal
First up we'll catch a fish. To do so head back up the path past the campfire and you'll find a pond on your right. Select your rod your radial and follow the instructions on how to catch a fish.

Now we'll cook the fish. With your fish in hand head back down to the campfire and again follow the instructions. On this occasion you don't actually have to wait for the food to cook as the commendation will unlock as soon as you put the shrimp on the barbie.

The Sea of the Damned

After cooking your fish head back to the pond and you'll find a cave behind the waterfall within which you'll find the second journal.
Hidden Secrets & Saluting the Pirate Lord
If you travel further up the hill you'll come to a shipwreck.

They Gave it a Name

Head up the stairs on your right, climb up the ladder then go up another set of stairs. You'll find the third journal on a railing beside the wheel.

Lost Secrets

From the wheel turn around and climb the mast to find the fourth journal in the Crow's Nest.

So Near and Yet...

Head back down and across to the other side of the wreckage but before going up the first ladder you'll find the fifth journal besides a couple of barrels.

Continue making your way up through the wreckage but before going up the second ladder stop of at the red barrel to pillage some cannonballs.

Now climb the ladder up onto the deck, load the cannon and fire off a shot at whatever takes your fancy.

The commendation notification mentions firing yourself from the cannon but this isn't actually necessary.

Now head over to the collapsed mast leading down to another pond in which you'll find the Old Sailor's Key.

Take this key down to the lowest level and on the right (looking at the wreckage from the path) you'll find a locked hatch that you can now open. If you climb down into the hold you'll find 25,000 Gold. Prior to update 2.1.0 (Season Two) you could also collect 200 Doubloons from within the hold as well as the Gold but these have now been removed.

⠀⠀

My Secret Plan

In the hold you'll also find the sixth journal.
Yer Boat
Head back to where we previously collected the fifth journal by the barrels and head out through the hull onto the rocks. Looking down you'll see a bridge which you want to jump down onto.

Lords of the Sea

Once on the bridge you'll see a ladder on your right leading down to a rocky ledge, make your way down to this ledge to find the seventh journal.

Making Camp

Cross the bridge to the other part of the island we haven't explored yet and follow the path up until you reach a large door with a lever besides it. Pull the lever to open the door and you'll find the eighth journal in a broken crate besides the campfire.

[/u]A Ship that Fits[/u]

Continue down through this cave until you find a capstan and use it to lower the bridge blocking your path.

Further on you'll find a pulley that you can raise a door allowing you access into a cove. Moving into the cove you'll find a ladder on the left leading up to a grassy ledge and a metal grating blocking your way out. The ninth journal can be found on this ledge.

Finally climb up into the rowboat.

Paintings from the Past

Head back out to where you pulled the lever to access the eighth journal and continue following the path up to the peak. When the path ends climb up the rocks to find the tenth and final journal.
Unto the Horizon & The Adventure Begins...
We can now return to The Pirate Lord to continue our voyage. You can make the arduous trek back down or take the Rapier Rollercoaster™. To perform this epic move stand on the edge of the cliff facing the beach below you and block with your sword, when you finally attack you'll charge forward and get boosted through the water onto the beach just a short jaunt away from The Pirate Lord.

You'll now be directed to board and repair the sloop sitting at anchor. First raise and repair the mast.

Then grab your bucket bail out the hold.

Finally raise the anchor and set your course.

Continue on your way through the shroud navigating any hazards as they arise and eventually you'll break through into the Sea of Thieves and unlock your final commendations.

@Garuhn The only suggestion I can make is to restart after doing everything else and see if it works as intended in a new instance.

Juat a hint, to use the pulley as described in the "A Ship that Fits" section, one needs to press and hold "F" and "S" until the door is raised completely. Then run through the open door, start running as soon as you left hold on the pullex - as the door will fall back down.

Took me about 10 minutes to figure that one out... :steamfacepalm:

Nope, you can replay it at any time from the main menu, you'll just need to replay through the first section again to get your gear back. All your progress is saved though so you won't need to repeat any commendations you already completed.
