Today I bring you back to the 60's-80's with 2 classic Cummins engines. The 855ci Cummins "Big cam" and the notorious 555ci V8 "Triple Nickle".

These are probably going to be more of a niche engine, seeing that they aren't powerful at all, and are best suited to 4x2 trucks of the same era, and only 28ft trailers, however if you long to grow a glorious handlebar moustache or beard, already have the beer and sweat stained "wife-beater" white muscle shirt, and snake skin cowboy boots, well then throw on them mirror aviators and start banging some gears down the blacktop with these beauties.

There is 3 different versions of the 555, a 275hp, a 320hp and a fantasy level whopping 640hp. This is a v8 with a peak torque around 2200 rpm and a limit at 3000. There isn't much power below 1500 so hammer down on this one, just try not to smash the crank in the process.

I made one big cam from each of the 4; the NTC-250 BCI with 250 hp and peak torque around 1600, the NTC-350 BCII with 350hp and peak torque at 1300, the NTC-400 BCIII with 400 hp and peak torque at 1400, and finally the NTE-465 BCIV with 465 hp and peak torque at 1300.

As with all my mods, the sounds are set for a full surround system in mind, 4.1 surround or better, and most likely will NOT sound correct with headphones. I have also adjusted levels based on the pic above, as well as being in cab, and not from 3rd person. My goal was to give an immersive experience with the sound from a drivers POV. Hopefully you feel I have achieved this. Also as the number of sounds increase, some modders have been having issues with sounds cutting out, or dropping. This is not the case with my mods. I have tested all my mods with multiple sound packs from Cipinho, along with train addon, weather addon, Boeing73Fly's immersion sound packs and the sound fix pack, with zero issues of sound cuts.

History:

Cummins 855 "Big Cam"

Big Cam I

The first Big Cam I engines were introduced in 1976.
Cummins aimed to meet new US government legislation at that time regarding noise levels and clean air requirements.

This engine replaced the Small Cam 855 series engines and it features a greater camshaft diameter and the introduction of top-stop injectors.

Big Cam II

Big Cam II engines were introduced in 1979.
The new features in this engine were:

demand-flow cooling
i.e. only cool when the engine demands it
to use the saved horsepower for output work
pulse exhaust manifold introduced
A big increase in performance
Some users upgraded their big cam I engines
with pulse manifolds just to get this increased performance.
T46 turbo chargers introduced

Big Cam III

Big Cam III engines were introduced in 1983.
The new features in this engine were:

New pressed steel oil pans
- a very noticeable feature
New oil cooler and water pump
Top Stop injectors modified to DFF
DFF - (Direct Fuel Feed),
extra fuel flow assists cooling
Holset HT3B turbocharger introduced

Big Cam IV

Big Cam IV engines were introduced in 1985.
The new features in this engine were:

New intercooler introduced
Cross flow engines introduced
Cylinder heads modified
not interchangeable with earlier models
Electronic Injection Begun
Pulse manifolds improved

Cummins 555

In the late 1960’s, Cummins saw the need for compact diesel engines to power pumps, generators, and farm equipment where load and engine speed were strictly controlled and therefore relatively constant. Small V6 and V8 engines were seen as fitting these applications even though the shortness of the crankshafts forced the connecting rod bearings, crankshaft main bearings and the crankshaft webs to be very narrow and hence weakened which limits the possible power output of the engine. Thus Cummins developed a small 555 cubic inch displacement V8 diesel engine designated the V-555, which quickly becoming known as the “Triple Nickel”. This engine excelled powering pumps, generators, and farm equipment. Never the less, the fuel crisis of the early 1970’s saw the engine applied to medium duty trucks and school busses.

This works on ALL SCS trucks, because not everyone has/likes modded trucks, but most people really dislike SCS engines. Also works on the following trucks:

There is a open def to add whatever truck you like, however, due to how the locker works, changing things like specs isn't possible. I use techniques to make every engine run as it would in real life, which takes a lot of research and time, things I don't need leaked or stolen by others. If people were more honest I wouldn't need to go to such extremes, but such is life I suppose.
