Description
Crossing a river has been a horror for commanders for as long as there have been wars. But the horror doesn't stop there...

Hey JC, thanks for the comment.
With the level of difficulty "Easy" it can be observed on many maps that the AI collects itself somewhere and does nothing more. My guess is that it's not "smart" enough for, narrow maze-like paths. Perhaps the simple AI calculates in a smaller radius of vision or action and therefore does not know what to do. It also always chooses the shortest path to base (barring territory points). And if there isn't one left (e.g. due to a broken bridge, or it's to far), then it collects all Units at the closest point to the enemy base.

My suggestion: increase the level of difficulty; On "difficult" and higher it gets awesome.
If you prefer to use the simple AI, play on small original coh maps first.

I hope I could help.

Good fight, neighbor ;-)

It's a very interesting map but it seems the AI from All Units 170 Added can't really pathfind much. I tested it with Soviets on Easy on the southern side (5 through 8) and they generally remain stuck and gathered in the middle of the map, as though they expect a crossing there that doesn't let them pass (which is to say, the AI doesn't bunch together like for a destroyed bridge but just stands there, spread around a little). This also means they don't capture any points on the eastern side, such as the repair, medical and fuel, towards the bridges. They do suddenly start to counterattack once they are disturbed, but never push beyond into the eastern half of their territory. It would be nice if you could look into this if possible.

Thanks for your comment @ mancubus. If you play the map with this tactic, I can understand that it is extremely impractical.
So there are two options left for you: either you adapt your tactics to the circumstances, for example with healing buildings (you should not press the retreat button then) or you look for the right maps for your style of play ;-) ... take a look for other MD -maps from my bro and me. Maybe there is something for you ;-)
keep enjoing the game

That map is unpractical Brig Gen for some reasons... the most important , all bases start in the far left .. ok ..you move all your army group by group to the far far right of the map to cross the river to the other side of the map... and ..given the situation that a big battle will take place in the river and the bridge all casualties that will retreat will have to run all the way back to the bases , heal them and again walk them back to the river which is a very long distance !!!!!!!
I have seen this to some other maps in the workshop and i dont download them anymore, it is just that it takes a long time to walk your groups to the other side of the map to cross and suddenly a big fight will make your casualties retreat all the map back...this thing is very tiring... really..
i would suggest you to make one big bridge in the center of the river for tanks and two smaller ones far right and left for infantry...

Hi Tommy, thanks for the detailed answer.

Yes, the two bridges are really a bit too close to each other.
Originally I only had one bridge, but that led to too much traffic jam.
I had also tried the option with the widened land ridge. In this version, everything was jammed there and the bridge was superfluous.
I know that in some games it can get really tough at this point. Sometimes it bothers me too.
I thought about it a lot and tried a lot, because this is the first map I created myself.

In the end, I find this solution to be the most attractive. Sometimes you need to deviate from the usual tactics and you have to find new unconventionally possibilities than always with the crowbar first ;-)

* laughs * I didn't even notice that there are no occupable buildings on the map because I hardly ever use them.

Maybe you like the other "MD" maps from my buddy and me better.

Keep enjoying the game
greetings MD

The two bridges are way too close to each other, if you try and repair the actual constructed bridge, you'll just get shot from the land ridge. Also I'd recommend widening the land ridge to let vehicles through also, rather than it depending on ONE bridge that has two lanes that can be easily destroyed over and over again, to no end in sight. Also there aren't ANY buildings on that map in which you can inhabit to make part of your HQ, which is literally a faction option within the game and this map basically doesn't allow that, so don't even bother going OBKW.

The map is bad

That no vehicles can drive through at the river crossing is intentional. (to minimize the trafic on the bridges) Once I've seen a Sherman drive through there. Then I looked stupid. But that is rather the exception ;-)

Yes l do have a similar problem with the path on the river (not the bridges) in which vehicles cannot drive on it, for both me and AI. Only infantry can cross
Maybe it's done on purpose ?
