I wasn't. I was testing the "level loader" asset in the level editor (which wasn't in this level - this one is a level that I was using as a "load this other level" item), and seeing how it interacts with endless mode.

are you trying to drop enemies into the upgrade room? because you can directly spawn them there with some trial and error, and activate them with an animation
