Light Infantry Battalions (Updated 2024)

This is a mod that allows you to use Light Infantry in your divisions. Light Infantry are classified as Special Forces and behave similarly to mountaineers. They are unlocked via researching mountaineers and receive improvements from the subsequent mountaineer technologies.

They have good buffs for defending, attacking, and moving on all types of terrain except plains. Each buff to each type of terrain is different, so take a second to check each one. They perform the best in marshes, jungles, and forests.

One thing to note, they also have a big debuff on plains tiles so keep them out of there. They have a slight debuff to defending and attacking forts and urban tiles.

They use less manpower, supplies, and weapons (-25%) but lack hard attack, piercing, and some soft attack. They also have extra speed, as in real life mountaineers were often mobile units with bikes, trucks, or fast legs. Oh yeah, and each battalion adds 1% equipment capture ratio. Needless to say these units are ideal for guerrilla warfare and places with low supply.



They are unlocked by researching mountaineers. They will also receive the same upgrades as mountaineers when you research it's upgrades. Upon researching it, you will gain a 12 width template with support recon.

To ensure compatibility, countries that have already researched mountaineers at the beginning of the game do not have the template, you'll have to make a new one.

The AI is coded so that it should use light infantry similar to how they use mountaineers, and have a target template to aim for too. Italy, Romania, and Hungary should use them more than other countries.
