So, when you start a trade route, the trader moves back and forth between the two route's cities, one tile at a time, until it makes a round trip. But, the game also has a hidden value that says "the route MUST last at least this many turns!"
This gets obnoxious for routes where a round trip is just a bit faster than this minimum since the route also can't end unless the trader is in the route's starting city.
From the wiki, the default minimum is 20 turns, plus 10 turns each when the game reaches the medieval, industrial, and information eras.
So for a worst-case example, if I start a route in the information era to a city 24 tiles away, the route will take 96 turns because the trader does a round trip in 48 turns, but that's less than 50 turns so the game says it has to take another trip.
This mod supposedly changes the minimum to a flat 14 turns, with no per-era increase, so the new worst-case is that a route that could've taken 12 turns will now take 24.
