Description
Cockatrice-class is a long range light cruiser designed for scouting ahead of main fleet and exploiting weak points and breaks of enemy line. The former can be achived with the advanced array of powerful sensors on the underside of the ship. The latter is possible due to relatively heavy artillery armament that is usually found on heavy cruisers, although in bigger numbers. Good acceleration and maneuverability compensates for relatively thin armor and lackluster shields- in the hands of experienced captain this ship would be hampered by the weight of the thick armor plating and extra generators needed for powerful shields.While not as long range as the Predator-class destroyer, it's still designed for independent operations but also can be used to great effect in larger fleet formations if need be.

Armament consists of:
6x Double 508mm (20 inch) heavy Gauss autocannons
10x Triple 203mm (8 inch) light Gauss autocannons
16x 40mm (1.5 inch) eight-barrel, fluid-cooled Gatling-style rotary point defence cannon

Right. I was getting it confused with a cockatiel. A cockatrice would be a reptile, albeit one sometimes depicted with feathers.

Named for a bird, but looks like a very dangerous caterpillar. I like it.
