The Eye

Description
The Observer of Wynn has found a new home in the shadows of Rivals, bringing its foul gaze down on the world.

How To Play:

General Info >> The Eye is a light and floaty fighter, that lacks speed, damage, and kill power. All these things are sacrificed for its near endless reach - nothing escapes from its gaze. Because of this, The Eye may feel weak to those unaccustomed to its style.

Unique Abilities:

+ Retaliating Gazer:

- The Eye can summon the Gazer using its Neutral Special. While it is preparing to spawn, you can input a direction to alter the way it is shot out. If you want to put the Gazer right in front of you, aim down. If you want it out in front of you input forward (or no input). Additionally shooting up might be useful for delaying its placement, or getting it onto platforms. Keep in mind that the Gazer has a hitbox when being shot, so it could be useful for more than just positioning.

- Once the Gazer is spawned, you have complete control of its movements. Inputting any normal attacks will cause the Gazer to perform them, however, the Gazer does not have specials or smash attacks.

- If your Gazer gets too far away, holding Neutral Special will pull it to your position. At the start of the input the gazer will move slightly faster, and its general direction if blocked by the ground or a wall will be preserved, so the move can create a lot of unusual setups. In addition, you can hold Side Special to have the Gazer move away from your position.

- Be aware that the opponent can kill your Gazer with their attacks. When the Gazer is hit, it can get launched a decent distance away as well so you won't be able to tank through their attacks. Although normally the Gazer can be killed, it is invulnerable while being shot and while being pulled.

+ Deathknell Wretch:

- The true boss in The Eye's fight, you can spawn the Wretch with Down Special. After around 7 seconds of being active, the Wretch will explode, hitting opponents anywhere on the screen. The direction opponents are launched is tied to the Wretch's position so careful placement is recommended.

- Should you have already placed down a Gazer, then using a strong input Down Special will instead turn it into a Wretch. You can still spawn the Wretch at your position by doing a lighter input on Down Special, but this option gives further control of its placement

- If both the Wretch and Gazer are active, using any input of Down Special will allow you to swap their positions. This means that even while the Wretch is counting down its timer, there's still time to fix its position. You may also find this useful for moving your Gazer around - the possibilities are endless.

+ Void Popper:

- The Eye doesn't have normal Strong attacks, and instead they are used to place the Void Popper. The longer you charge the attack the farther out the Void will be placed. Should it hit either a wall or the floor while being positioned then it will be destroyed, but it can travel through platforms. Forward Strong sends the Void forward, Up Strong sends it at an upward angle, and Down Strong can be used to send it through platforms or off the stage.

- Once set in place, the Void Popper will become a danger to your opponent. If an enemy runs into the Void, then they will be launched upwards, ready to be hit. Additionally while being launched up, the enemy cannot DI, so they will always be sent to the same spot! Be aware that invincible or armored enemies can active the Void with no drawbacks, and it does nothing to protecting you from projectiles.

+ Watching Position:

- By pressing Taunt, The Eye will become immobile, with a small amount of armor. While in this state you may not be able to move, but your Gazer will still be controllable, so this can be helpful if your having trouble playing two characters at once! Additionally while in this state your Wretch cannot explode, so you can control exactly when it activates should its timer be up.

+ Mobility:

- Although The Eye is a slow character, they do have some options to help. Dash Attack is a fairly safe option, which has a lot of burst speed at the cost of its endlag. Additionally it can go off stage, giving you some speed if your looking to head off the side after an opponent.

- The main mobility tool of The Eye is its Up Special, which you can input in any direction. What makes this move special is that it can actually be used twice before landing, and only puts you into free fall after the second use. This should help The Eye deal with both its low speed and its light weight, by providing a safe and reliable option to return to the stage.

- Though Dash Attack and Up Special are the main movement tools, the Eye has some other options. While using both Jab and Up Tilt you are able to move around, and even fall off of the stage. While in the air your fall speed is greatly reduced, which could prove useful for edge guarding or just carrying your opponent around. In addition, you can jump out of both these attacks for the early hits, which can set up into combos.

+ Other Info:

- If you find any infinite combos PLEASE let me know. You're supposed to use ALL its mechanics, not just get carried by an infinite combo >:(

If you find any cool tech that isn't mentioned, maybe post it bellow, and especially tell me if you find glitches while playing.

+ How to Deal With The Spam

- Gazer: The Gazer can be killed by being hit, which is especially easy with projectiles. If you parry the Gazer's attacks it will also be destroyed, and put the Eye in stun (unless it is the Gazer's jab, which will not be deleted on parry).

- Wretch: a lot of people complain about the wretch as being impossible to deal with, but actually you have a lot of options to deal with it. If you want something low risk, you can simply crouch armor through the wretch explosion. You'll still take the damage, but you won't get launched, so this might be worth doing if you can. If your looking for some higher rewards, you can actually parry the Wretch explosion, the best time is as the warning sound is ending. If you parry the wretch, it deals no damage to you, but more importantly it puts The Eye into a very long stun anywhere on the screen, even if they are off stage. Another option that some might choose is to simply get The Eye into hitstun. Should the Wretch activate while its creator is being hit it won't blow up and will instead cause it to disappear with no ill effects.

- Void Popper: You can parry the Void, which like the Wretch puts The Eye into parry stun, however you can also roll through the move to destroy it, or use any move with armor or invincibility, since all you have to do to activate it is touch it.

Makes total sense, didn't even think of it that way. Thanks for the response, love the char. ^^

I hadn't realized that the jab is longer than the parry invincibility, I'll see what I can do to fix that. The reason the jab is like that is because it allows you to position the gazer while your using it, as the very long length allows you to get your gazer ready for combos out of it (or just added damage during the jab). I originally had the jab be one where you had to press the button for each hit but scrapped it because that would stop the Gazer from being controllable. Additionally this jab is designed so that it cannot be used in infinite combos with the Gazer since a lot of characters with minions or followers have really dumb jab locks due. This jab is unable to be used for such purposes because of the strange way that it works.

Definitely agreed with the bottom idea. The character is super cool (albeit very hard to use) - one bug is that parrying the jab is kind of useless since it lasts long enough to hit past the invincibility: make the jab multiattack much faster instead of being a cutscene attack?

I absolutely love that there's a Wynn character as I'm a total nerd for the server. Great char and great ideas!

PD: Just an idea that fits the original wretch: maybe add a hurtbox to the wretch so you can kill it

Good character but I think the wretch needs a way for the opponent to fight it back. Even in Wynncraft you can kill the wretch so it doesn't take 90% of your health, here it is a free hit which can get not only extremely annoying but it can also be fairly busted, since it can break enemy combos, kill the opponent and hurt them, and they can't do ANYTHING about it.

well this character is just ominous

Thanks for the info about that infinte. I had just changed the pull ability, and hadn't accounted for it being able to do that. Should be fixed now :)

Huh, never would had thought Wynncraft would have a Workshop Character in Rivals of Aether

I find out you could infinite your opponent with nspecial if the gazer and the eye are on the same spot (which is fairly easy to set up thanks to the taunt) because it seems you can't sdi out of nspecial.
