Description
What it is
A cookie monster =)
This controller aims to get your boat out of the water or to the height of your propellors / waterjet.
This isnt the most sophisticated hydrofoil controller I have made or on the ws but it is very universal and forgiving in different creations.

How to set it up
  • Place altimeters at each corner of your boat and connect to the Microcontroller (have the altimeters easily accessible for repairs as they output a constant value if broken) .
  • fins need to have minus arrow facing up.
  • height control is the height the pids are aiming to get, this can have any range you like even minus. The height will be releative to the height of the altimeters so if you output 2 it will aim to have the altimeters 2m high

Tuning
  • If it gets to the desired height but wobbles slightly decrease P increase D on the FL,FR PID's, if it continues to wobble decrease the RR,RL PID's also.
  • if the bow is lower in the water then the stern increase the P on the FL,FR
Alternatively you can add more fins to your bow foils and or move the front foils further forward
  • If the stern is lower then the bow then do the opposite as above
  • aim to not use I in the pids as if you leave it in a standstill the I will build up and will be uncontrollable depending on how long and how lrg of a I value
  • If you have a problem that i didnt give a solution too, ask in the comments or dm me.

Starting values for pids
  • The default values usually give good results out of the box
  • This rlly depends on the amount of foils you want to spam on your boat, larger vessels generally require smaller P values then smaller vessels. The default values are for a boat that is 38m long and has in total 22 small control surfaces and 16 medium fins
  • another factor to consider is the spread between the foils if you have the front and rear foil spread close together then it will require more fins and higher P values as more work is required (Law of the lever)

Credit for pics
  • Pic 3&4 are from fullahead. Boat name :MV Fairlady . Not on the ws currently
  • Pic 5&6 are from icepenguin83
  • The rest of the pics are mine
  • If you want me to upload a pic for the ws page just ping me in discord or something

If you do use this in your own creations I would appreciate credit to this page

I have an obsession in my head, I have a boat that accelerates to 170 meters per second, but at that moment the rear wing becomes extremely unstable and the front wing takes off. Maybe someone has already realized something like this, or can tell me how to overcome it?

This literally doubled the top speed of my boat! Great job, exactly what I was looking for, but so much more. I will definitely be using this in many creations. Keep it up!

And with a pid its easy to adjust depth while moving

Or a gyro

Why do you need a controller? just use a pid for depth hold and a tilt sensor, function, and more fins for roll

this thing works generally as a stabilizer for a plane or submarine so it is very versatile
