About Sorriso Salumeria

Asset is inspired by Sorriso Salumeria in Astoria, Queens NYC. Frank DePaola opened his business in 1979, after immigrating from Calabria, a region in southwest Italy, to the United States. He and his employees make much of what they sell, like the sauces and sausages. Deli cases display prepared dishes. Mr. DePaola said he was selling to his third generation of customers. People who would come in as children in strollers now come in with their own children in strollers.

About the Building
The real-life Sorriso is a simple one-story building. I generally prefer 2-4 story buildings for my Little Italy project so I took the retail storefront and applied to one of the generic 3-story building templates I will use in the collection. While I will reuse buildings, especially the mid-block ones, in the end when the project is complete there will be a large variety of over 15 different building models for 40+ commercial assets.

Background on Little Italy collection

This Pork Store is one of the first wave from my Little Italy collection I plan to publish in the coming months where I take independent Italian American businesses with appealing vintage signage that have endured for decades in places like NYC, Philly, Detroit, St Louis, SF, etc.. Expect to see Pasta shops, Cheese Shops, Cafes, Cannoli stores, and much more.

Signage is part of the model mesh. With the windows being papered with flyers and posters specific to Sorriso I didn't see a compelling reason to separate the signage as a prop for this asset.

This asset is one spicy meatball! :-) Didn't realize that you were going to make 40+ commercial assets for this collection, that will make a great neighborhood!!!
