The Mad Mako | Speed Boat

The Mad Mako is a collaboration between Dirty_Elbow and Terminal Velociraptor.

The Mad Mako is able to hit up to 140 meters per second in third gear and is able to hold that speed in moderate waves. It’s reverse is controlled through the gear shifter, simply put it in first gear, then press the down arrow to go into reverse.

This project started out with a goal to make the fastest boat we could make. We first started out by learning how hydrofoils work, to minimize the amount of water drag on the craft. We then moved on to learning about jet engines and how to squeeze the most performance out of them. We originally used the afterburner and fans to produce thrust, but that was insufficient so we made the leap to use fluid jets instead. By combining these two major aspects of the craft and our design building and logic along the way, we have created this magnificent speed boat.

This has been a few months in the making, tuning the PID necessary for the speed this boat can achieve has been a royal pain in the but, along with tweaking the hull shape and paint to create an aesthetic that we were happy with. This boat was being made during the changes to the fluid jets which has sent us back a few steps in the PID process, as the boat uses a push-pull method to keep the hull out of the water and stable. The hydrofoils pull the hull out of the water while the fluid jets push it down, so it’s always in an equilibrium state of balance.

Comes complete with a 'privacy screen' to keep prying hands off of important controls.

Do not attempt to leave your seat above 120 M/S as minor waves will bump you off of the craft and into the water, it will kill you.

Throttle levers in between the two seats are purely ascetic.

This is a low lag vehicle, most of the major logic is contained within microcontrollers to help increase game performance.



Startup Procedure:
Hop into the Pilots’ seat
Enable the main breaker on the right
Turn the engine on located on the main dash
Use W/S to increase and decrease throttle
Use the push-buttons to change the gear. Cycling up to 3 and then pressing up again will return you to 1.
