Arcturus Class Light Corvette - H2 Variant

The Arcturus is a semi-modular design aimed at operation in all environments.
Capable of: limited mining, basic resource processing, light combat, trading, & exploration. Able to operate at long ranges and capable of sustaining an engineer for an extended period of time.

The H2 Variant is an upgrade to the original H1 variant

Compared to the H1, the H2 mounts a second engine nacelle; effectively doubling it's thrust output. This results in greater combat agility & the ability to move quickly whilst carrying much greater mass of cargo.
The H2 also mounts a rocket pod (which the H1 does not), making it a very credible combat threat.

Power is supplied by a hydrogen engine, & additional power if required can be sourced from a bank of 6 batteries.

Onboard, the ship contains 2 o2/h2 processors, 1 basic assembler, 1 basic refinery, & 1 survival kit. This enables the processing of most essential resources, which can be gathered via the piston-mounted drill at the front of the ship.

The interior is "cosy", but functional. (and fully pressurised)

The 6 large hydrogen tanks (3 in each nacelle) provide considerable reserves of fuel, & the arrays of hydrogen thrusters provide exceptional speed. A quartet of large atmospheric thrusters work to lessen the hydrogen demands of operating within gravity.

The Arcturus does not carry a jump drive as standard, but is designed with the potential addition of a jump drive in mind. Removal of the dark grey blocks in the image below will provide an appropriate space to install a jump drive.

(If installing a Jump drive, it is advisable to remove the hydrogen engine & replace with a pair of small reactors - this will meet the power demands better than the hydrogen engine.)

4 Gatling turrets are spaced around the ship to give maximum coverage with as few blind spots as possible.
If entering combat it is important to keep a good distance, & keep mobile. The Arcturus is only a light combatant & will not take hits particularly well. (luckily it is agile enough to evade fire if you keep a decent range & keep moving)
Also mounted between the hull & the port nacelle is a rocket pod. This makes the H2 a dangerous combatant (if a fragile one)


Cargo storage needs are met by 1 large & 1 small cargo container, & you can dock using either the underside or rear connector.

The Arcturus is fully functional in survival, & the H2 variant can be constructed with only the materials you can find on planets. It's a reasonable ship for your first forays into space.
