By Feta Cheese
This guide is created to primarily suggest mods that enhance gameplay, fix bugs and make game more enjoyable overall.
Do note: mods turn off achievements.
English is not my primary language, so please, tell me any text errors I may have done.

18/05/2022 EDIT: THIS GUIDE IS HIGHLY OUTDATED, USE A MORE UP TO DATE GUIDE IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME. I'm only keeping this guide and not deleting it for archivation.

Getting Started
To mod Fallout 4 first you'll have to do following things:

1. Start the game at least once (Main menu is enough afaik)

2. Download and install F4SE[f4se.silverlock.org] (7zip/Winrar or similiar program needed)

3. Install a Mod manager (Optional, but highly recommended, almost a requirment) choose one of these:
I cant really recommend what Mod manager to use since I only use Vortex.

Here's a short video on how to install F4SE:
https://youtu.be/_2yb9CjcH_A

Note: From now on you have to launch Fallout 4 either through F4SE file in your game folder or through the Mod manager.

You can check if F4SE is working by using the following console command:
getf4seversion
After that it should tell you the version of the F4SE in the console.
BUGS BUGS BUGS
As many of you may know, Fallout 4 is a mess. Random crashes, FPS drops, bugs... and so on.
This category is focused on mods which makes the game more enjoyable and smooth.

1. Insignificant Object Remover[www.nexusmods.com]
What this mod does is pretty simple -- It removes some insignificant objects (like small stones, rubble, concrete debris, the crap underwater, a couple twigs, the stuff you probably never noticed and can't interact with.) that when removed won't impact the gameplay in a bad way, you won't notice anything and your FPS will improve a bit.

2. Sprint Stuttering Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
A small mod that fixes twitching/stuttering when sprinting in first person. That's it.
https://youtu.be/PHB_0F4FiXo

3. High FPS Physics Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
All this mod does is fix problems associated with high FPS. Such as animations and physical bugs.
The features of this mod are:
  • Unlock FPS.
  • Untie the game speed from the framerate, allowing you to play at any FPS values at normal speed.
  • Fixed stuttering. The game will become smoother.
  • Fixes a problem with dialogs.
  • Jump height fix at high FPS.
  • Reduces loading time. The effect is especially noticeable if game is on SSD.
  • Ability to disable animation on loading screens to significantly reduce loading time.
  • Fix rotation speed of objects.
  • Fix rotation speed in workshop mode.
  • Fixes a problem of stuck NPC and getting stuck when you access to the terminal and power armor.
  • Fix lockpick rotation speed and sound during lockpicking.
  • Fix wind speed (clothes and hair).
  • Fixed a bug with a white screen when the player falls (from the third person)
4. Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch[www.nexusmods.com]
A bug fixing mod that aims to eventually fix most of the bugs in the game that developers didn't fix. Can't say anything else about this one.

5. Fo4FI_FPS_fix[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod aims to correct all cells of the Commonwealth in the game.
The mod is continuation of "Boston FPS Fix" mod which only fixes Boston and as far as I know is broken.
You will have a large increase in fps and smoothness of the game process.
Yes, it weights a lot. But trust me, it's worth it.

6. Console Name Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
A small mod that fixes name display for objects selected in the console.
Example:
Before : '' (00002f1f)
After : 'Piper' (00002f1f)
Gameplay Enhancements
This category is focused on mods which improve the gameplay, visuals and so on.

1. Faster Terminal Displays[www.nexusmods.com]
If you think that terminals displays are too slow for you, then this mod is for you. There are 6 files you can choose from: 2x/3x/5x/10x/20x/100x faster display speed. This makes terminals less time consuming.

2. Crafting Highlight Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
A F4SE plugin that allows you to disable the vision-obscuring shader effect at various workbenches so you can actually see what you're crafting.
Also allows you to change the shader effect for the power armor station and robot workbenches to a outline-only shader instead of a full shader.

3. Improved Map with Visible Roads[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod makes the global map on your pipboy better. Roads, waterlines, train tracks are now more visible.
A must have if you want to see the map more clearly.

4. Classic Holstered Weapons System (CHW)[www.nexusmods.com] Fans of Fallout 3 or New Vegas will love this mod as it adds a classic holstered weapon system that works with ALMOST ANY weapon, even custom weapons! They will appear either on your hip or back depending on their type. (Heavy weapons such as Fatman, rocket launcher, minigun and etc. don't appear) And no patch needed for custom weapons.

5. Start Me Up - Alternate Start and Dialogue Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
A very decent mod that lets you not only skip the intro but also: start a game with different role, start in a different location, choose unique traits, choose your starting level, choose how much gear you have on start. Some of the dialogue has been changed too!

6. CROSS Crit Gore-verhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
A great mod that replaces the plasma goo/laser ash/fire crit effect with something more brutal.
Almost everyone will turn into skeletons after being killed by a crit, be it a laser, plasma, fire, or alien blaster projectile.

7. Pack Attack NPC Edition (PANPC)[www.nexusmods.com]
AI in Fallout 4 is pretty mediocre, most of the time they will charge you without any hesitation. PANPC tries to fix this. NPCs will use cover far more frequently, grenade spam is reduced, they will try to flank you, run and hide. They are more likely to ambush you, and will try to use their melee often if you're close. If you're tired of NPC fights being the same everytime, this mod is for you.

8. Enhanced Lights and FX[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod enhances lighting and FX of interiors. Interiors will look much more pretty and realistic. There's not much I can say more.

9. Kill Tips and Hit Sound (Remastered)[www.nexusmods.com]
If you're a fan of Call of Duty or Battlefield, you most likely know what hit sound are. Well, this mod adds those! You can choose what sound plays after you hit and kill an enemy, not only that, but you can also change the feedback after you kill the enemy!

10. Full Dialogue Interface[www.nexusmods.com]
And finally, a mod that almost everyone knows about, but still a must have. Not going to lie, the dialogue system in Fallout 4 is... bad. What this mod aims to do is to make dialogue choices full. You can also choose to replace the wheel with a much more comfrortable box.
It all goes to an end...
This is the end of my guide.
This techically my first guide so, any critique is welcome.
Have a nice day! Good Luck! and a happy New Year!

18/05/2022 EDIT: If your mods don't work, don't complain here, I won't reply. You read the title. It says OUTDATED. Find a better one on YouTube or in other Steam Guides.

I think I need to say that this guide is highly outdated and I don't play Fallout 4 anymore since you need a shit ton of mods to make it fun. Anyway, this guide won't be updated so don't complain that mods don't work. Search up "How to install Fallout 4 mods in 2022" on YouTube if you want a much better guide.

Also, whoever gave me an award a few moments ago, thank you now I can buy a lewd anime neko profile background lmao.

awesome guide!

I do not recomend Fo4FI_FPS_fix because it messes up the material swaps leaving objects with the default texture. Even the original creator took it down from nexus but later brought it back because of the countless requests
Jackdaw04 17 Aug, 2021 @ 12:57pm
i followed the instructions step by step, but the ''getf4seversion'' command is not working, as it says ''script command not found''. How do i fix this?
