City Lights Booksellers [UPDATED]

Description
City Lights Booksellers asset has been updated.

Reworked diffuse and illumination maps to allow for more interesting night time illumination of windows. In this revamp I also upgraded the transoms around the entryway to stained glass for extra visual interest.

Changed signage from part of main model to an included prop. This allowed the sign to have its own illumination map and the letters now light up at night. A by product of this is 2000 fewer lower triangles on the main model.

About the building

This asset is inspired by the iconic City Lights Booksellers and Publshers in San Francisco, CA. City Lights was founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin. Both the store and the publishers became widely known following the obscenity trial of Ferlinghetti for publishing Allen Ginsberg's collection Howl and Other Poems. The bookstore's location straddles the boundary between North Beach and Chinatown neighborhoods at 261 Columbus Ave.

I have made the asset more symetrical and square than the real-life building so that it would be playable in many C/S cities. The asset is 3 tiles wide and best used in wall-to-wall dense urban zoning.

Some of the pictures of the asset include a prop with 6 banners that have adorned City Lights that have the message "Paper May Burn But Words Will Escape". The real-life bookstore has cycled through various banners like these over recent years. I recommend using the accompanying banners prop and placing with Moveit if you want a more unique look for your city. The Prop already spaces the 6 banners horizontally to fit between the 3rd story windows so the effort level to place is minimal.

Sadly, I will not use this, although I would love to, but not with an Invalid LOD texture size.

Thank you! I agree about The Strand being a prop pack. I'll get back to you on that. Let me know how best to contact you and I'll do a bit of searching later. And thank you for your foresight on Powell's! I look forward to subscribing the hell out of it. :-)

@KikiMarieHenri - I am working on Powell's. It's about 50% done but it is a lot of work because it is 4 buildings in one. I have taken a break from Powells to work on another project. I do expect I will resume and finish by end of November.

As for the Strand. I have thought about just creating the signs and awnings as props for the Strand. Because the Strand goes best at the base of a skyscraper and I don't build skyscrapers. If you have suggestions about which existing workshop building would go best with the Strand props let me know and I will try to have the dimensions be compatible with it. I prefer a top 3 list rather than just one building so I have some flexibility to determine best option.

I love this! As a bookstore lover, I found very few famous bookstores in the workshop, like The Strand in NYC or Powell's in Portland, OR. Have you seen them on the workshop or would you be interested in commission work for one of those?

Aww, RIP Lawrence. He passed today at 101. Just downloaded the asset in his honor, and I must say, great work.
