Originally built for minesweeping, the Suurop was launched in 1956 in Rauma, Finland. In 1957, she entered into service with the Finnish navy bearing the name Rymättylä.

She was one of the five ships built in Finland after the Second World War. They were the first of the R-class large patrol boat series of warships. In 1979, the vessel was reconfigured and classified as a patrol and antisubmarine ship.

In 1999, the Rymättylä and her sister ship, the Rihtniemi, were given to the Estonian Navy. The ships were given the names of minesweeping vessels that had been in service within the Estonian Navy in the 1920s and 1930s The Rymättylä was renamed P421 Suurop, and the Rihtniemi became P422 Ristna. The ships were assigned to the Mine Warfare Squadron and were in service as training ships for the Estonian Navy until 2006.

This is my 1:1 scale Stormworks rendition of the P421 Suurop. I have tried to replicate the general exterior of it as well as I could, but given the limits of Stormworks, It's obviously not 100% accurate. Unfortunately there is no information available on the interior of the vessel, so I had to use my imagination when creating the interior for it. My main goal with this build was making it look as good as I possibly can and I am very satisfied with how it has turned out.
