Originally built as cargo freighters, the Trade Federation's Lucrehulk-Class formed the backbone of their trade empire. Their massive size allowed them to carry vast amouts of goods over great distances.

However, when the republic cut funding for programs meant to protect shipping in the outer rim, vessels like the Lucrehulks became tempting targets for pirates and extremists. In response the Trade Federation began arming these vessels to allow them to defend themselves. 2 variants were made, a Battleship variant designed to function as a main line warship, & a Droid Control variant built to serve as a command and control ship.

Both variants were capable of carrying vast armies and their necessary equipment. To transport those forces they carried 50 C-9979 landing craft. On top of the ground forces the Lucrehulk could carry 1,500 Vulture-Droids and a compliment of Sheathipede-Class shuttles for VIP transport.

In 32 BBY, as talks on a new trade tax stall in the Galactic Senate, the Trade Federation secretly snuck a few of these vessels off to Geonosis where they would be modified into proper warships. This new fleet of Battleships would be revealed to the galaxy when the Trade Federation blockaded Naboo during the Naboo Crisis.

Following the Trade Federation's defeat at the Battle of Naboo, they were ordered to dismantle their capital ships. The Trade Federation would circumvent these regulations by separating the Core Ship from the outer hull and using the 2 components as separate vessels.

When a sect of the Trade Federation joined the CIS following the outbreak of the Clone Wars, many Lucrehulk-Class vessels ended up in service to the Separatist Navy. With a new paint job, they served as command vessels, carriers and transports for the duration of the Clone Wars.

Following the end of the war, most Lucrehulk-Class Droid Control Ships were scrapped by The Empire and their raw material were used to build new Imperial-Class Star Destroyers. However, one Lucrehulk-Class droid control ship found itself in the service of the Rebel Alliance. Named Lucrehulk Prime, This vessel was commanded by Hera Syndulla and served as a training facility for rebel pilots.
