Description
I present my first commercial asset. I've flagged the 1930's Barn Lamp as a required item. The asset will stand alone without it. But is definitely improved when the lamps are included.

About the building
Residents of your historic district need to find doors, windows, moldings, vintage door knobs, and other architectural details to restore the interior and exterior of their homes. Thats when they head over to Black Dog Salvage to prowl for good deals on salvaged architectural treasures from the past.

This asset is from Roanoke Virginia. The name Black Dog Salvage(BDS) was eponymously inspired by the black labrador retrievers that lounge around the showroom. BDS has some national notoriety due to the Salvage Dawgs television show that has been on cable networks since 2012. On the show the Salvage Dawgs visit abandoned commercial, residential and industrial sites slated for demolition across nearby states to carefully extract architectural elements to bring back to their warehouses. Salvaged items may or may not be restored or upcycled before becoming available for sale. But most often items are just sold as-is for the customer to restore. Businesses like these are found around the United States and it is not uncommon for the customer to have to haggle over the listed price before a sale is finalized.

I choose to focus on creating the unique look and logo laden yellow facade of the main BDS building. For maximum realism in your city my suggestions are as follows: Clip one or more additional run down 1 or 2 story brick industrial buildings to the rear. Place some shipping containers, rusted fences and other random props around the perimeter of the property. These could be anything ranging from pots, tubs, beams, statues, signs, or other random items you might find in landscaping of home construction. Outdoor inventory is often organized into informal aisles but otherwise nothing about this asset or the property surrounding it should look crisp or brand new. Everything should appear weathered and worn down. This sort of business would usually be located in a less desirable area of your city. It would be far more likely be in some odd shaped parcel of land cutoff by a highway or train tracks than in a well defined industrial park with uniformly laid out street grids. All these are just suggestions - do what works for you and have fun with it...

Thanks everyone. Please consider following my workshop. I'm going to have a great "Little Italy" collection with bakeries, cheese shops, butchers, italian markets, fish markerts, etc coming out right around or after Thanksgiving. Probably 8-10 buildings...

This is a pretty cool building. Would you consider making a generic version, without any branding?
