"Enable Crossplay" Crash on First Startup Fix
By Fume Knight
Fix for the game crashing on startup when you have to select for crossplay to be enabled or not. Obvious fix for most people, but some people might still be confused.

Introduction
For those who may have just purchased the game on steam, there is an issue that a lot of people are having. After loading up the game, you are asked if you wish to have crossplay on. Most people would say yes.

Saying yes crashes the game for most people. It is a pretty easy fix but this guide might be useful for those who are still having trouble.

The Fix
1. Instead of saying YES to enabling crossplay say NO.

2. You should be able to make it to the main menu.

After you make it to the main menu, you should enable crossplay. Not that many people own the game on PC it seems, so enabling crossplay will allow you to find way more matches online.

To enable crossplay again, just do this:

1. Go to settings

2. Privacy Settings.

3. Crossplay ---> ON

4. No more crashing, and crossplay is enabled.

I will provide two screenshots if you cannot find the crossplay settings for whatever reason.

Conclusion
This might seem like an obvious fix to some, but making a quick guide wont hurt anyone. Have fun playing hot pursuit online!

Im looking to have some people to compete with on autolog, you can add me here

Game repeatedly crashes in the beginning introduction video when propted to press space, pressing space will crash it. This can be reproduced. What the fuck. I played this game fine on another machine (which had to be replaced). New rig, game fucks up. But only this one.

Maybe try making edits to "...\Documents\Criterion Games\Need for Speed(TM) Hot Pursuit Remastered\config.NFS11Save". The values I'd try first are for: DisplayMode, VSync, FitToVertical, and MaxFrameRate under [Display]; and potentially SpeakerSetup, HighQualFilters under [Sound]. If you play on a less powerful machine you could try anything under [Graphics], though the issue is less likely to be related to those in my opinion. I'm only guessing here, so I suppose any of the settings in this file could be causing an issue. I can upload my file for comparison if needed.

Ensure your graphics card's driver is up to date. Contact EA to see if they can be of any help. There are a number of other fixes you could try (though potentially far more invasive and broad), if you search the issue: unplugging/disabling devices, uninstalling, changing various system settings, etc. Just consider whether or not a more general fix is worth it, especially if everything else is working fine.

If that's happening on a fresh save then it could possibly be a firewall or antivirus thing. Who knows. It's clearly very crash-prone so the fixes may not be standard procedures. But I guess make sure the game's allowed through your firewall, and check your antivirus reports to make sure it didn't try to block the game. (I don't think antivirus would interfere at this stage, but worth checking I suppose.) You could check "debug.log" in the game's root folder (...\Steam\steamapps\common\...), and just make sure there isn't a helpful message regarding the crash.

Otherwise, ensure you follow this guide, as the problem may look slightly different for some. And then you could just do the more general troubleshooting steps -- updating, resetting, etc. -- and hope they fix these issues in the future. I did see something interesting in the discussions where someone's game was crashing, supposedly, because of their EA profile picture. Didn't find much else from a quick glance though.
