Perfect Deflection
By SAUL
You start to deflect when enemy sword, blade, hand starts to move towards you . That is how you get that perfect clink sound and damage enemy's posture with perfect deflection .

The explanation in game tel's you to start deflect right before when enemy attack land's, it is correct but - it is MISLEADING, making you think that you must start deflect right before sword hits you .

Mikiri Counter : all enemy weapons will be pointing at you or up before strike . Ishin Ashina steps his left foot back and his spear away from you his legs are wide and the chest forward then his spear moves over his head towards you. Again press shift when weapon or hand or leg starts to move towards you.

Another general tip :
1) Know layout .
2) Hit and run ( stealth As much as possible )
3) Divide and Conquer. When have to fight multiple enemies ( if they swarm you, you most likely will have a problem, run to spread them out )

Good luck Have fun !

P.S. I do not own the picture it is from internet .

Shinobi hunter - If the ''dull'' end of the spare facing towards you deflect , If the cross bladed end facing towards you mikir counter .

If cross bladed end of the spare facing to your right and to the left of the shinobi hunter , then it is sweeping attack incoming !!! It is best to pull back (shift + S) , if you try to jump over the sweep , he will spare you in mid air .(all this especially apply when you fight monks inside audience hall in the castle )

Again I never disagreed with in game explanation it is the same thing as mine just from different perspective .

The shinobi hunter is fast especially when you in close range for mikiri and if you confuse his piercing attack with sweeping he will pierce you in mid air ,however piercing attacks can also be deflected with right mouse button, try keeping distance of +/- two of his spares for better chance at mikiri countering .

Also samurai in ashina castle has two kinds of mikiri attack which differ in speed in close range .

I wish there would be a way to make this guide more in depth without video but words only can get me as far as this .

If you have any questions just ask ill be happy to help .

This guide is far too 'general', the shinobi hunter goes from stance to hitting you far too quickly to use your method, but he strikes 3 times so you get 3 chances to use mikiri. I agree with the in game explanation more than yours.
