Description
Update 5/7/14 - switched out the Condor for a slightly modified version made by Eruend. this version has 2 more reactors and vital components better protected.

Update 4/20/14 - added the Thunderbird Dropship

Update 4/11/14 - added glass windows

Update 3/21/14 - fixed engines to no longer cause damage. added fuel storage systems. also made both variants capable of landing without damaging the ground with thrusters

Update 2/18/14 - fixed the glitch related to the new passage blocks where ladders are replaced by turrets

Update 2/13/14 - Added a Civilian version that functions as a planetary shuttle (Yellow and Blue Cormorant)

NOTE: you can find these ships and others in my "Military Division" file. this is uploaded if you prefer a separate download.

Corvettes fill a small niche between fighters and larger ships. they are small, agile, and fast. they are typically assigned to escort and anti-fighter duties, and typically weigh around 1m kg

Cormorant Corvette (foreground)
Weight: 1m kg
Acceleration: 3 m/s^2
Weapons: 4 gun turrets
Ammo Capacity: 1 large container

this covette was designed specifically to be an escort ship and provide anti-fighter support to larger ships. the wings can fold up so that it is able to land on a flat surface. when in flight, the wings are locked in place by landing gear on the side. the design was inspired by the Theta class shuttle from Star Wars.

The Cormorant was designed by Phoenix Shipyards as an anti-fighter escort for larger ships. Additionally, it also sees action carrying military personnel between starbases and planets. Several Cormorants have been produced without weapons (and with friendlier interiors) to be used by civilians for such shuttle purposes as well.

Thunderbird Dropship (middle)
Mass: 1mil kg
Acceleration: 3.5m/s^2
Weapons: 2 missile launchers, 3 guns, 4 rocket launchers
Ammo capacity: 16 small containers

The thunderbird was designed to drop troops into the heat of battle. it is fast and manueverable, with anti-infantry weapons below as well as more armoring on the bottom to protect against ground fire. its large cargo bay is well suited to house infantry squads or vehicles that are ready to be dropped into combat.

Condor Rocket Corvette (background)

Mass: 970k kg
Acceleration: 5 m/s^2
Weapons: 3 gatling guns, 8 rocket launchers
Ammo Capacity: 2 large containers

the Condor is the most deadly and sustainable of all the corvettes so far, with a large ammo capacity and the ability to point all but one of its weapons forward onto a target. it is slightly less manueverable than the Thunderbird, but remains much faster than both of the other corvette classes.

@Below, that'd be a risky move but I am talking about the old merge blocks. Hacnt really used them since they used to be so buggy. If they are fixed, then it should do quite nicely, give it a shot I guess is the only thing to do.

Is it possible to use merge blocks instead of landing gears for the wings? (just an idea. :D )

but then you cant fold the wings and land the ship

I think they would still look good without the 2-3 extra degree from the motor. :)

the wings with rotors are purely for aesthetics. since rotors are a separate ship, they don't weigh the ship down anyway so praticality is not really an issue. the floppyness of the wings is why the landing gear is there on the side, so be sure you are locking it when down. when the ship was first created i never had any problems except if a client flew the ship in a mp server, which is more of a lag than design issue. however, i will admit i have not tested the ship recently and the wings may no longer hold so securely since recent updates

Again, nice looking ships! I also like the layout of the corvettes.
But these wings with rotors are not practical. They get damaged while flying and I also found out that if you fire the rocket launcher on the on ship while turning, the ship will shoot at itself. Maybe something to consider when updating these in the future.

where did you get the planet?

You should make another corvette without rotors. Just a suggestion, you don't have to.

i feel your pain, and it's why i don't build many ships with rotors. i know someone is working on a tool to copy ships with rotors, but i don't think it is finished yet. until then, you can always copy and then build the wings yourself. unfortunately, that also means replacing the rotors and transferring the settings over

Unfortunately, it is actually impossible (without having a crap ton of time AND two people) to paste one of these in, otherwise I would of been flying these around a bit more.
