The Tribute To Monkey Island

This Mini Park was created for the Channel5 Mini Park Contest.

Deep in the Caribbean there is a mysterious island: Monkey Island. Since nobody ever found its secret, it is time to find it yourself. The park pays tribute to Monkey Island, one of the greatest game series existing. It combines all my favourite locations from the original game and its first two sequels, like Puerto Pollo, the giant monkey head, the cannibal's village or the Goodsoup Hotel. This Mini Park contains three main attractions, three flatrides and six fully themed shops.

For all references to Monkey Island 1 - 3, I used the short cuts MI1, MI2 and MI3.

For the best experience, here is a little introduction or you can follow a suggested order by the provided map:

Welcome to Monkey Island. You did not come here intentionally, but looking at the entrance of Puerto Pollo, you can feel a magical aura which draws you right into the experience. Starting off at the boat bridge, you'll enter Puerto Pollo (MI3). To your left one of the first themed shops is Kenny's Lemonde (MI3), which covers you with freshly made lemonade (keep an eye on that mug!). Following the main stairs you are heading towards the outlook, which also gives you a sneek peak what to expect. Going back and one level lower, you NEED to visit Stan's Carneval (MI2, second themed shop), the best souvenirs and costumes you can find in the entire Caribbean. With some water bombs in your bag, you can visit the Bastion (first themed flatride), a small location where horses go wild.

Afterwards you better head to the big plaza in front of the theater. You can enjoy a live band and also have a mug of grog at the local Scumm Bar (MI1, third themed shop) or grab some chicken at Blondebeard's Chicken (MI3, fourth themed shop). Now it is time to relax and enjoy the show "Speare!" at the Puerto Pollo Theater (MI3, second themed flatride). But there's a twist, you won't be the one to enjoy the show..

Leaving the theater, you are confronted by the huge mansion of the Goodsoups. But barely anyone is left of their family. Especially Mimi Goodsoup, who fell in love with Charles DeGoulash, and escaped with him to get married - those charming rebels (Escape DeGelouash, first main attraction). I bet you are starving by now! That's why you should visit the Goodsoup Inn (MI3, fifth themed shop), where you can either check in for a night or have a drink at the hotel's bar. You can also let Madame Xima (MI3) predict your future. After a small rest it is time for more thrill.

Leaving civilization, you enter the big jungle of Monkey Island. The first location you are crossing is Vodoo Lady's Vision, a small vision of MI3's final chapter (second main attraction, best view in wagon 3, seat 4). Are you still alive? Then go ahead and follow Guybrush's footsteps by entering the big monkey head to find Big Whoop (MI1, third main attraction, best view in track view). But be careful, LeChuck's ghost ship is watching you!

If you still managed to survive, then you need to work your way through the cannibal's village. You can get a delicious Bratwurst at Brimstone Beach Club (sixth themed shop) and party all night long. But as you might know, they are rather vegan and don't harm you. Still, you should leave as soon as possible, they won't fall for your tricks - especially not the 3 Headed Monkey distraction (MI1, third themed flatride).

After a long day, you finally made it and found the secret of Monkey Island: happiness after a long day in an amusment park! Fully satisfied you can head back over the small bridge to Puerto Pollo, take a final mug of lemonade and leave Monkey Island ... for now ...
