*** Game saves restoration is contingent on the user having steam cloud saves that have not been overwritten in some fashion and may not work for all players. ***

Introduction
So something happened and now your game crashes at the video intro.
If you have already played and have saved game information then follow the steps to recover your save game.

If this is the first boot or you have little progress you are willing to lose then just go to Step 3.

If you find this useful then please consider leaving a like to help promote it so others may find it easier.
Please feel free to leave a comment below.

Step 1
Navigate to your save game files (steam cloud remote)

Example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\9543546\973580\remote

Backup everything in here for later steps.
Step 2
Navigate to you save game files (local)

Example:
C:\Users\ (your account name here) \Saved Games\Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts

If you have been using steam cloud sync for saves then this should be empty or just have empty directory structure

Again, backup everything before making changes
Step 3
Stopping the Crash

Go to the game in steam and right click

Select
>Properties
>Updates

You should see a box like this:

Uncheck the box "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization."

Then simply close this box.

At this point the game should be playable and NOT crash.
But all game progress is now gone.

Run the game to verify it works.

To restore your game progress and to re-enable steam cloud sync read on
Step 4
Now that your game works once more, lets get your saves back.

Start a new game until you can exit the shooting range.
The game will create save game files which will now be stored locally on your machine
  • See Step 2

Quit the game after this.
Step 5
Restore your game Progress
Copy everything under the remote section from (step 2) EXCEPT the profile.xml

From the steam game directory
To the local games directory on your machine

(C:\Users\ (your account name here) \Saved Games\Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts)

Remember to EXCLUDE the profile.xml file from this copy process

Example:
If everything went smoothly then you can run the game and
verify that your in-game progression has been restored
Step 6
Play the game to verify if your game runs without crashing and secondly to verify your progression has been restored.

Easiest way will be to go to contracts and see if previous finished contracts are available.

Now you have your game running and your progression has been restored BUT your saves/progression are now only stored on your pc.

Turning on Cloud sync again will still crash your game.

But there is yet another fix for this.
Step 7
Re-enable Steam Cloud Saves.
Quit game if running .

Go to location from step 1

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\9543546\973580)

Delete everything withinthe "973580" folder.

Then copy everything from step 2 location

(C:\Users\ (your account name here) \Saved Games\Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts)

into location from step 1 but this time INCLUDE the profile.xml.

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\9543546\973580)

Repeat step 3 and re-enable the steam cloud synchronization.

Run the game.

Your game should now launch without crashing and still have access to your save files but now you are back using steam cloud sync for the game saves.

Ahh, This guide was to fix an issue where the game would fail to load a save at all halting progression and it was tied into the files in the profile section.
Not quite what you wanted it to do.
I believe you can replay any mission from the main menu anyways ( I think, Been awhile since I booted it up)

I had a backup of the remote folder (it was the backup that I had originally been trying to restore over top of a subsequent save to replay a section so I could record the play), though the files in the savegames and profile folders did have different time stamps. I wasn't able to get it working. I just ended up playing on easy instead of normal (which wasn't that different tbh) and spent 7 hours and played back to the same point. All because I was trying to record something. Lesson learned lol.

Did you backup the remote folder?
Did you turn off cloud sync before moving or re-starting the game?
The time stamps should not matter. They get updated as you play.
You should still have a copy (backup) of your previous saves either remote or local so you could try again.
If you didn't backup your saves then there is probably little to do but start again.

Uggh. I messed something up trying to restore a save. I was 12 hours in and now I can't restore. I've tried the steps above but it sadly doesn't seem to be working. I wonder if it is because the time stamps of the files from my remote folder are different in the remote "profiles" folder vs the remote "savegames" folder. After I choose new game then do the training shooting range then quit and then copy the files from the remote folder to the user folder (except the profile.xml) I then start the game again, but it immediately overwrites the files in the profile folder and it only gives me the option to start a new game again, saying it will overwrite any previous saves. I'm guessing I'm going to have to start from scratch....
