Apel's :: Nightmares and maybe Dreams [Contest Collection]

Description

With this collection we wanted to share our expression and vision that been inspired by Slavian culture, it's mythology, gods and fairy tales... As well, to re-design significant gods and characters from the fairy tales in our own way, which is a pretty interesting challenge and fun process.

The idea for this collection has some story behind it - my girfriend found a cool artbook with Slavic mythology. While we've been looking through it, we both got an idea that it would turn out great as being an inspiration for designs.

We find Slavian culture very interesting and significantly-beautiful... Totally unique vibe to express.

A huge inspiration comes from the "Witcher 3" game, since it's lore is based on the Slavian mythology.

We think that this idea is pretty fresh, since nobody did anything like this for CS:GO game before.

It was a great experience for me since I created this collection - with my friend Vuogle, who is an amazing illustrator, I’d say, one of the best I’ve met in my life.

Baba Yaga:
In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga (Russian: Баба-Яга, romanized: Baba Yaga) is a supernatural being (or a trio of sisters of the same name) who appears as a deformed or ferocious-looking old woman. In Slavic culture, Baba Yaga lived in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs. Many American parents remind their kids to behave because Santa is watching them and will bring them coal and whips if they aren't. This is a cautionary tale that encourages good conduct. In Russian, many parents tell their children stories about Baba Yaga to keep them on the straight and narrow, because the witch would come for them, at night... Baba Yaga literally means 'Grandmother Jadwiga' and being associated with bad childhood dreams/nightmares.
We decide to build the composition with significant lorefriendly elements to deliver Baba Yaga imagery as much as it's possible, aswell as we designed some custom runes to make "witchcraft" and "nightmare" vibe pops-out better.
