Step 1. LIE THE ♥♥♥♥ DOWN

By not-moving after being knocked down, you will STAY THE ♥♥♥♥ DOWN.
While in this state, you are invulnerable to literally everything other than DoT status effects that were applied prior.

Note that being afflicted with K.O. or "Dizzy" status will FORCE you to stand up.
This is a hint at the fact that only someone afflicted with actual brain damage would get up IMMEDIATELY after being knocked on their ass.

Step 2. USE YOUR EYES, FRUIT-CAKE.

While contemplating your life's decisions and the group's weapon composition, USE THE PEEPERS YOUR MOMMA MADE YOU, babs.

You can't lie down forever, sad as it is, so keep your eyes open and determine carefully when it is wise to rise. Get up soon as possible, but make sure it's SAFE to do so or you'll regret it.

Step 3. LO~ORE

The no-hitbox life strategy of lying the ♥♥♥♥ down and staying the hell put for your healers to help out has been a long-time niche ignored totally and completely by every noob and dual-blade main...
Because unfortunately, you can't teach a knife-maniac how to calm'est their ♥♥♥♥♥ down.

It's something from the good ol' days of ♥♥♥ and EUR Monster Hunter games on PSP, possibly even the PS2. Can't say for sure tho', only played a few of 'em on PSP myself.

That so? I can't recall. I've played a LOT of MH titles and kinda forget which did whot.
