Description
Purpose
A medium miner designed for tunneling horizontally or vertically either manually or with the PAM autominer script in any environment; atmosphere, space or lunar gravity. The Kaari MK3 is designed as a more versatile alternative to the Agna and Myxini series, all equipped with atmospheric thrusters and either hydrogen or ion thrusters, as well as a stone ejection system.

This is the unarmed version, find the armed variant (with 2 fixed gatling guns) here.

2 gatling turrets
4 drills
PAM script
Fancy Status Displays script

6 Large Batteries
15 Small Batteries
1 Large Hydrogen tank
17 Small Hydrogen tanks
2 Hydrogen Generators
1 Hydrogen Engine

Movement & Control:
1 Cockpit
1 Remote Control

This ship has an empty mass of 105910 kgs, and can move with a full cargo at a maximum tilt of 60 (atmospheric thrust only) degrees below horizon in atmosphere (alien planet) and 90 degrees in lunar gravity.

All Programmable blocks are turned off in this blueprint and all toolbars are the same from the cockpit and remote control.

All ships in this set have a rear mounted Merge block and can be printed using a welder wall with one (large grid) piston.

Yeah, the situation does not seem very hopeful for getting it fixed, but I'll go make some noise about it and see

For now, I guess I'll have to retire the ships that use hydrogen as PAM miners. Manual piloting only, or at least only run them when I can sit in the cockpit and watch a movie while I wait for components to be produced or something. And I guess I'll start working towards the versions that only use atmospheric / ion thrust as drones, since batteries at least still seem to work. That does mean I'll need more energy production though...

"Insufficient energy! Build more pylons!"

At the suggestion of someone on the forum, I tried going into the editor and recompiling the script. I even reloaded it from the workshop and *then* recompiled it again. Neither helped. Hydrogen fueled ships won't pull fuel unless a player is in the cockpit. The script runs fine, *if* I'm sitting in the cockpit of the ship, so the script itself seems to be working. (If it was a scripting problem then it shouldn't be pulling fuel in either case.) I guess Keen broke something when they made the changes for the Hydrogen rebalance.

You could try making a bug report, but I don't know if it will help. Keen has a bizzarro world system where they only fix the most *popular* bugs. This is not only an edge case bug, it's not even going to matter on their official servers because scripting is disabled. I can't see them putting any effort into fixing it. :(

Yup, PAM uses all thrusters on the grid, and we can't really nag the author, since he isn't updating it anymore.

Yes, the groups merge and unmerge when you have more than one miner of the same type, so I also usually number and re-name things.

So it seems like it is a Keen bug? you're the second one to tell me about this hydrogen refill bug, maybe its time we made a bug report, since I didn't see one there after a quick look.

Spoke too soon. :( I just noticed that PAM automatically turned the hydrogen thrusters back on. I'll keep playing with it and try to figure out what I did wrong.
EmberStar 14 Dec, 2020 @ 4:18pm
Okay, I figured that part out. PAM got confused because I turned off the H2 thrusters *while* it was running. It apparently includes them when calculating thrust, but doesn't change dynamically if they're turned off suddenly. Solution: Use the "Fly to Job Position" function, *then* turn off the hydrogen thruster array. Then use the "continue job" function. PAM recalculates the thrust and can run the ship on just battery power. Yay!

Since this is a hybrid ship, I did try just turning off the hydrogen thrusters. (No H2 fuel used, no H2 refueling bug.) For some reason, PAM seems unable to hold altitude without them. The moment I turn them off the ship starts dropping, even when empty. I'll keep playing with it, my survival game is early enough that I'm still struggling for some resources so it'll be a while before I can print off one of the Atmospheric Only ships.

While I was playing with it, I made the following change to the cockpit custom data:

Kri3-H 01 Cargo,WideBar,noscrolling,nonames Text: Cargo
Kri3-H 01 Batteries,WideBar,noscrolling,nonames Text: Bat
Kri3-H 01 Hydrogen Tank,WideBar,noscrolling,nonames Text: H2

This cleaned up the display a bit, instead of just partially displaying the group name.
Note1: I renamed everything on the grid by adding " 01" to it, including the group names. I have more than one of the ship, and they were having weird collisions when they were docked at the same time because the groups would merge with the same name.

Note 2: There are two trailing spaces after each of the "Text:" additions, to encourage FSD not to smush the percentage data with the name.

Note 3: FSD seems to get confused by the drill balancing, because it displays 100% as soon as one of the cargo blocks is full. The progress bar and weight are accurate though.

I'm in Singleplayer. I just checked, by using one of the LCDs to access the Control panel instead of getting in the cockpit. All the tanks are set to stockpile, but they're not refilling - they're all stuck at 80%. If I hop in the cockpit or access the remote control it becomes a player controlled grid and refills instantly. I guess I'll need to temporarily retire those two and use one of the Atmospheric Only or Ion Only miner variants until Keen fixes it. Assuming Keen *does* fix it. :( Otherwise the ships only auto-mine reliably if I AFK while sitting in the cockpit.

This might also be a problem for the Hydrogen Only ships too, if it's a Keen bug. :(

Hello again Ember, I don't know, since I haven't had that exact issue, but there has been some weirdness involving refilling hydrogen tanks, i that sometimes they won't refill until a player gets into the cockpit of the ship (a keen thing, not a PAM thing).

So perhaps, what's happening is that as you get in the ship, the tanks fill up and it goes?

Other than that I'm not sure. Are you playing single player or multiplayer? If it is the second one, maybe it is something to to with the server restricting grid's you're not using?

If you find the answer please let me know, I'll put a disclaimer the the description of the miners, or update and re-upload if it can be fixed.
