Unofficial Mod Jam Roundup for The Grim and The Goof
13 items
Description
Counting Skulls adds a pile of skulls to the bottom of each unit's porthole during battle. The pile has no skulls at the beginning of the battle but grows as your units get kills.

The pile grows as if it were a square pyramid (approximately), so the top row generally represents 1 kill, the next row represents 4 kills, then 9, 16, and so on. This mod currently stops counting at 385 kills, though this might be expanded in the future.

The pile of skulls will only appear if a unit with kills is selected and is the only unit selected. If you select multiple units, the pile of skulls will be hidden until just one unit is selected again.

This mod was made for The Grim and the Goof Modding Jam[tw-modding.com].

Compatibility

This is a scripted battle mod. It is compatible with saved games and can be added or removed in the middle of a campaign.

This adds the pile of skulls on top of the porthole image, so it should still be compatible with other mods that change the porthole image, such as the Charming Portholes mod.

The only incompatibility I know of is if there's a scripted battle mod that uses the phase handlers or selection handlers that only allow one listener. If you run across a mod like this, let me know so that I can work with the author to fix the incompatibility. The only mods I currently know of are:
  • ClickNFight or Spell easy access. We fixed this incompatibility so you can use both mods now. Enjoy!
  • Spectator Mode II. If you would like to use Counting Skulls with an updated, compatible version of Spectator Mode II, use AI General II instead.

Do you want to help improve this mod?

Counting Skulls is functional now, but if someone with art skills wants to help improve this mod, I'd be happy to have your help. You could improve the appearance of the existing pile of skulls, vary the contents of the pile depending on the enemy, or add other stylistic enhancements that you might think of. Message me on Steam or Discord (paperpancake5#2391) if you are interested.

Can this be ported to 3?

Hope this will be ported for WH3, with Khorne in the equation now, this mod just makes perfect sense

@Paskale terryflap said they were interested in porting this, so I had put it out of my mind. I don't know whether terryflap still intends to port this.

Any chance you'll port this to WH3?

@terryflap I sent you a Steam message to discuss further.

This is one of my favourite mods of TW:W2; I just got TW:W3 and couldn't find this mod for it!

Are you planning on porting it over? If not, would you mind terribly if I had a go at porting it? I haven't done any modding in Total War before, so I might not be able to figure it out; but I'm happy to figure it out on my own and not bother you with it :)
I can either send you the version I make so you can upload it, or I'll credit you if you can't because you don't own warhammer 3 or whatever

Such a fun and cool mod @paperpancake. Thank you!

The MCT bug appears to be fixed, so this mod can see your MCT settings again. I had to unsubscribe and re-subscribe to MCT to get the latest MCT bugfix, so I recommend you do the same. I have only done limited testing so far, but I've confirmed this mod can see your MCT settings again with that fix (thanks @Vandy!). As always, this mod still works without MCT using either the default settings or the optional text file configuration.

If you use MCT, please note: the new MCT currently has a bug that makes it so your MCT settings are ignored in some battle mods like this one (it doesn't crash or anything; this mod just can't find your MCT settings). I just spoke with Vandy and he is working on a fix. In the meantime, this mod still works with the text file configuration or with just the default settings.

"Updated." As usual, no changes were necessary to be compatible with the recent game update (based on in-game testing and looking at CA's script changes). Now the launcher won't complain about it being out-of-date, though.

@Gleen Cross: I looked at a few things, including High Resolution UI Improvements mod, but even with that mod, this Counting Skulls mod still works fine for me. Since I haven't been able to reproduce the issue, I'm not sure what I can do. (@ anyone else: are the skulls still appearing for you?)
