Better Map Sizes

Description
Enables custom map sizes through the Advanced menu on the world map during map generation.
Also allows for setting the default map size to use when generating tiles (in case you forget to use the Advanced menu)

NOTE: There are no checks on the sizes you input. If you put in sizes too small or too large, it may fail in spectacular ways. If that happens, please send me a video of your computer catching fire.

Known incompatibilities:
  • RimCities - RimCities custom map setting will always override the sizes set by this mod regardless of load order. Workaround: Disable RimCities custom size setting. Note that I don't know how RimCities will handle truly custom map sizes.
  • Geological Landforms - UNDER INVESTIGATION. Adding Geological Landforms seems to completely ignore whatever map size you input. I have not tested to see whether it's possible to switch a setting and make the two compatible. YMMV. (Thanks @Slaine for the report)

Save safe:
- This mod doesn't add any functionality to the game itself. Only to map generation. Therefore
- This mod is safe to add mid-save (though it's rather pointless)
- This mod is safe to remove from a save (for example, if you want to reduce the number of mods). The map size you've selected is saved to your savefile.

@m00nl1ght thanks, i still had it turned off just in case, and it turns out that version of land forms was breaking my outpost gen, all factions had 1 settlement i had no idea why, so this being fixed again is worth it to me

@Icarus that is correct. This mod modifies the height and width properties created during world generation. It does that one time at the start of the run, and this information is stored in the save file. You can, however, edit your savefile and change the values there. Note that I don't think this works for encounters, I think those have a different sizing.

"Does not affect existing save files", does that mean I can't change the size of NEWLY generated maps in a save, like in an encounter?

Yes, however I would not recommend less than 50x50, most landforms will just look weird at that point.

@m00nl1ght does it support smaller than vanilla, but still square, map sizes?

@zParticle my guess is that this is some sort of game limitation to make sure nothing spawns too close to the edge. This mod only unlocks map sizes, it doesn't do anything to the rest of the game.

On tiny maps (such as 25x25) the ground-penetrating scanner only ever finds resources in the center of the map, which means they overlap and you have to mine through one resource for another to show up. It's not game-breaking but would sure be nice if there was a way to fix it so resources appeared normally.

@Muronelkaz

Geological Landforms does not (and will never) support non-square map sizes. It is simply not built for that. Some landform might work ok-ish, but others will break horribly.

@Slaine

Hi, I'm the author of Geological Landforms, I could not replicate the issue you described, map size is changing as expected with both mods enabled. Could you please try again with all other mods disabled to confirm the issue is caused by Geological Landforms?
