Description
EpsTweak is a series of small mods that tweak the balance of Civ 6. Rather than put all of them into one hefty package, I've split them into small fragments to allow you to make your own custom rulesets.


I don't like Recon units in the base game. They're weak, it takes a while before they can really move around rough terrain, and half the time they randomly die from running into barbarians. So I made them better.

This mod reduces the base movement of Scouts, Skirmishers, Rangers, and Spec Ops to 2 (but not unique units) and grants all Recon-class units the inherent ability to move through Forest, Rainforest, and Hills without penalty. It also removes four Promotions from the Recon promotion tree (Ranger, Alpine, Sentry, Spyglass) and replaces them with new ones:
Reconnaissance: +1 sight range. Ignores enemy Zone of Control.
Survivalist: +8 Combat Strength when defending vs. Barbarians.
Pathfinder: +1 Movement.
Sniper: +1 Range to ranged attacks.
The Guerilla promotion now also grants +3 Combat Strength in Woods and Rainforest.

Would it be possible to make them earn experience by exploring as well? I'd love to see that added, right now the few mods doing that are either broken or not working at all. "1 exp for 2 tiles" only works for host; "recon units get experience" doesn't work at all, and a third one that used to exist disappeared :(

I feel like Survivalist doesn't really work but I could be wrong.

@Elrondir Gaming.TTV @Kenraali Works fine for me (recon units ignoring terrain penalties from hills, forest, and jungle). It doesn't apply to embarkation, marsh, and crossing a river, but i don't think it is intended to do that. I have a lot of mods (170), and they don't cause difficulty with this mod.

the ability to ignore terrain isn't from a promotion (when using this mod). Look for a mod that changes somehow recon units themselves, for the conflict.

@Elrondir Gaming.TTV Same here. The only mods I have that alter promotions in any way are EpsTweak for promotion heals, Nere's Rockband mod, and Spy Promotions. Nothing that changes Recon units.

Don't know if anybody else has had this problem but my units still have the movement penalty in Forest, Rainforest and Hills.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the answer and saving me from the onerous Mod Compatibility process. I use a number of your mods (well done, and thank you) and I like this one a lot, but the Better Promotions is so much better than the vanilla promotions that I gotta go down this road, especially if I'm gonna try out the Cree this time. Thanks for everything, Eps.

Oh, and I do agree with one commentator that the Survivalist promotion should apply to all units, not just Barbarians. (Nobody likes 'wasted' promotions.) Radiant makes his bonus +6, which is I think correctly powerful as opposed to OP (though that applies to all situations, so I don't think +10 is out of the question for your mod), and it really only adds to their "survivalbility" not power. Historically, recon units were great act extricating themselves from difficult situations and were rarely caught and wiped out.

I have no idea? My best guess would be: no. Because this mod deletes some entries from the promotion table.

Is this compatible with Radiant's Better Unit Promotions, which changes all the base promotion trees?
