How To Play Solo Online
By LUST
Easy way to play alone in multiplayer with no limits on allowed activities (compared to other solo modes that push some sorts of limits on what you can do).

Intro:
As obviously many don't read the text above, I'll repeat it here, this is the ONLY way you can play in peace with no locks on any of your online activities. Just read the comments for once with people who already compared to you official solo options vs. this one, and spelled it ALL out for you.
How to - Method 1:
1. Start in a Public lobby as usual
2. Alt+Tab to desktop
3. Ctrl+Alt+Del to open task manager
4. Once there, click 'Performance' tab
5. At the bottom click on 'Open Resource Monitor'
6. In the 'Processes with network Activity' find 'GTA5.exe'
7. Right click on it and choose 'Suspend Process'
8. Confirm when the message appears asking you whether you actually want to do this.
9. After around 15 seconds right click on 'GTA5.exe' and choose 'Resume Process'.
10. Confirm when the message appears asking you whether you actually want to do this.
11. Get back in the game.

That's it! Do whatever you want, the server is all yours until some more people will join it eventually.

Note: Wait longer in case you still have people in your lobby, but 15 seconds should be more than enough.
Method 2 (Untested YET):
  • Start in a Public lobby as usual
  • Right click on the white bar on the top of the game (you should see the menu).
  • Wait for 10 seconds
  • Get back to the game

It's untested by me method (for now). But let me know in comments if it works for you too. This method should be a bit faster to perform.

@CXY. I'll post it, but let me know (anyone else) if it works. Coz I don't always play GTA to test it out.

Wow I can't believe all hardcore GTA O players come here bashing my guide stating there are in-game options to play online solo. Wow you just really don't know anything. Please read some comments of people that already compared it for you. But I guess it's too much to ask for. Also same goes for the first two lines of the guide.. know how to read? Let me edit it for you, maybe you'll need bigger and fatter letters.

@SorryShaktiman - Nah, I would have no problem playing online except that if you so much as cough, alt-tab or play music in the background while playing GTAO will likely cause Rockstar to eventually ban you on PC. And I would screw around and do wacky shit with all the new content offline how I wish. Of which Rockstar has conveniently ignored entirely because you can't convince idiots to buy SharkCards offline (...or can you? I'm sure someone with more money than brains would do so.). GTA has always been predominately singleplayer and should've stayed that way with multiplayer just being an option if you wish to play with friends. It should've never been the primary mode, de facto, for the game.

Ah I have a quicker way. After step 2, right click on the white bar on the top of the game(you should see the menu). Then, wait for 10 seconds and get back to the game, you are done.:steammocking:

GTA community is so cancerous that people literally are finding ways to play a multiplayer game in Single Player. Thanks Rockstar.

@lust When I suspend the process, I'll try to resume the process but it's greyed out and doesn't let me resume the process, any tips?

For the Cpt. Obious in some of you guys urging you to suggest the "official" Solo option, please bear in mind that you cannot really do much beyond what you can do in "Passive Mode" in regular MP already. Won't help you a bit when you want to haul stuff for your business without the usual griefers and hackers annoying the krap outta you.

@Suds the Reptile Some activities like selling product in that mode don't work so you can't make money, hence why you need to be in a public session and ideally with few to no people in it cuz they like to be toxic and mess with the product you're selling.
