Zee's Balanced Ship Refits

Description
=+=+=+=Welcome to Zee's Balanced Ship Refits=+=+=+=

This mod aims to improve the Naval Ship Designer and Convert/Refit functionality of the game.
Man The Guns DLC is required.

There are 2 key changes made by this mod:
  • First, the Naval XP requirements to design and swap modules on warships is reduced, allowing you to actually play around with the fun new designer.
  • Second, the IC and Time required to refit ships is reduced to a reasonable amount, such that using the refit feature is actually sensible now.
Simple radio upgrades for your battleship will no longer take 3 years...
The scale of costs in vanilla is all over the place, with no standard or method apparent.
This mod fixes that.

=+=+=+=The Details=+=+=+=
  • Set cost of adding new module to ship design to 1 XP, down from 5 XP
  • Set cost of upgrading module on ship design to 2 XP, down from 3 XP
  • Set cost of changing module on ship design to 3 XP, down from 6 XP

  • Base IC cost for refitting reduced from 20% of ship IC, to 5% of ship IC
  • Module cost < 999 - Same Category refit cost is 50%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 30%
  • Module cost > 1000 - Same Category refit cost is 40%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 25%
  • Engine cost < 999 - Same Category refit cost is 200%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 150%
  • Engine cost > 1000 - Same Category refit cost is 100%, Direct Upgrade refit cost is 75%
  • Armor dismantle costs cut by ~75%
Some Context:
  • "Same Category" means any change that isn't a direct upgrade. For example, upgrading from a Cruiser Engine T1 to T3, or downgrading from T4 to T3, would both be considered "Same Category". Upgrading from T2 to T3 would be "Direct".
  • 200% may seem like a lot for engines, but vanilla had this value set to 500% or higher in many cases.
  • What the game calls "Armor dismantle costs", are really just "Armor Replacement" costs - whether its an upgrade or a downgrade. Vanilla had this value set anywhere from 4000 to 8000 IC, easily the cost of an entire heavy cruiser built from scratch! I don't know what the devs were smoking when they set these numbers but I want some.

-=-=-=-=-Compatibility-=-=-=-=-
This should be compatible with most mods, with the possible exception of Naval Rework Mods and Grand Overhaul mods. Let me know if you confirm a conflict.

Confirmed Compatible:
- Road to 56
- Kaiserreich

Confirmed NOT-Compatible:
(these might be patchable but I don't have the time, try DIY)

The mod update has been posted!

The formerly "super" heavy battleship armor is working again, and several armor-based speed modifiers were updated to match the new vanilla values (the previous values had stronger speed penalties across the board).

Engine and Armor upgrade costs were also slightly re-balanced in response to the general updates recently made by the devs.

Sorry this update took longer than I wanted it to, let me know if you encounter any issues.
Enjoy!

I've made time to get things updated later this week, sorry for the delay all.

The mod is outdated, the latest game update introduces changes to the retrofit of ships and the names of ship classes.

Looks like there is some sort of bug associated with Super Heavy Battleship Armor. In both vanilla and Kaiserreich, I get an error saying that the super heavy armor is not a valid input in the armor slot.

@Super Shepherd go delete the mod in steamapps/workshop/hoi4-number/2073318750 (idk the hoi4 number sorry)

Does it work with 1.13 or 1.14?

While I'm at it: The New Order also doesn't jive with it. Most modules function since they are just reskins but the new adds, like Nuclear Engine and Ship borne Missles don't exist.

Noted - Great War added to non-compatible list
