Unique Firearm Progression - On Hiatus

Description
Changes all firearms to be more unique, adds a sense of progression to firearms, and unlocks some unused content.

-IWBUMS B41 only.

TL;DR
In general, revolvers and shotguns are easy to use for characters with a low skill level in firearms, but do not gain much from a high level user. This makes them good for training a characters level if they did not spec into guns at all.

Rifles are a good middle ground, where they are somewhat easy for low to mid level characters, but also gain a lot from high levels in shooting.

Semi automatic handguns are difficult for low level shooting characters, but become one of the best options at high shooting levels, thanks to a low sound radius, low weight, and greater ability to be used while moving.

Adds in the M16, M14, and some attachments that weren't spawning!

Global Changes
~~~Here are the general levels where certain firearms become more effective. Note that this is just a general guideline.
0-1 (M36, M625, Shotguns)
2-3 (MSR-788, M14, Magnum, 1911)
4-6 (MSR-700, M16, M9, D-E,)
-All Firearms are much quieter. They are still loud enough to draw a horde, but it is no longer a death sentence to use them. The loudest is just over 100 tiles, the most quiet is about 30 tiles.
-Each level in Shooting impacts guns in different ways. Some guns get better crits, others get better range, etc.
-Firearms stats are in general more varied and unique. Each firearm should have a playstyle, or at least a reason to exist.
-Revolvers and are good for low level shooters. Levels in shooting do not help them very much.
-Rifles and shotguns are good for low level shooters, and great for high level shooters.
-Pistols are bad for low level shooters, but ramp up greatly with each level in shooting.
-Shotgun spread and EXP rates are less drastic. This makes them unable to blow away zombies that are spread apart, and they are instead good for quick target acquisition.
-Attachments are more varied, and can be applied to more guns. The M16 and M14 now correctly spawn.
-To compensate for the lowered EXP rate from shotguns, this mod was devoloped with an expected skillcap level of 6 in shooting. Higher levels will not break anything, the core balancing is just focused on all of the levels prior.
-Rifles have the same additional EXP as shotguns, giving any heavy, two handed weapon better returns for the commitment to using one.
Specific Changes
~~~Revolvers
-The M36 has been rebalanced as a shotgun pistol, similar to the Taurus Judge IRL. It serves as one of the best sidearms for a low shooting skill character. While not the best at taking out a horde, it can certainly save a melee focused character when they need to clear a path without risk of getting grabbed. Sound radius is 50 tiles.

-The M625 has been rebalanced as a jack of all trades revolver. It can be used fairly well at low shooting levels, and is a good pistol for training the shooting skill. Sound radius is 45 tiles.

-The Magnum has been rebalanced to be a single action, hard hitting revolver. While more difficult then the other revolvers to use, most shots will be a kill when they hit. The amount of time required to aim is higher, but if you are clearing zombies from a car, the range and reliability of the Magnum shine for a low to mid shooting level character. Sound radius is 60 tiles.

~~~Shotguns
-The JS-2000 Pump Action is a reliable, easy to use shotgun. The range has been greatly increased, but the spread has been reduced to be more in line with reality. This is still the cream of the crop for clearing a horde, but it also has a niche in clearing a close quarters area, with the excellent moving accuracy at low level shooting and ability to kill multiple zombies. Sound radius is 90 tiles.
-The Sawn Off JS-2000 is more similar to how vanilla shotguns work. However, to further solidify that niche, the range has been reduced, and moving accuracy increased, creating a great close quarters horde clearer. Sound radius is 95 tiles.
-The Double Barrel is a slower, longer range JS-2000. It can kill zombies much further out then the other shotguns, and is easier to use. However, it will take a much longer time to aim, and the moving accuracy is reduced. Sound radius is 100 tiles.
~~~Rifles
-The MSR-700 has been rebalanced as a faster, more skill based weapon. At low shooting levels, it will be hard for a character to reliably hit zombies in a lethal manner. However, at higher shooting levels, this firearm will perform as a two handed option that is somewhat quiet for the results and range it brings. Its moving accuracy has been decreased, but the cycle speed of the action is increased. Sound radius is 50 tiles.

-The MSR-788 is the louder, more powerful, and easier to use rifle. While it is effective even at low shooting levels, this weapon is the best option for sharpshooting/sniping. The maximum range of this weapon increases with each shooting level much more then others, meaning that it retains its slow rate of fire, but has a much more pronounced strength in its range and consistency. Sound radius is 75 tiles.

-The M14 hits hard at a good range, and is pretty easy for a mid level shooter to use, but it isn't as mobile as the M16.

-The M16 requires a high level shooter to shine. When used by one, the high DPS, good range, mobility, and reload speed are unmatched. This is definitely the most versatile weapon at level 6 shooting, if you are willing to lug it around. It also has a much wider variety of attachments.

~~~Pistols
-The M9 shoots much faster, and is one of the best weapons for shooting while on the move, but it will take an experienced shooter for these benefits to show. The hit chance is not bad, but most hits will not be the critical headshot that players need, unless they have a high level in shooting. At high shooting levels, the M9 is fast, accurate, and while not always lethal, it's still valuable for its very low sound. Sound radius is 30 tiles.
-The 1911 is probably the weapon most high level shooting character will want to carry the most. It's rate of fire, damage, critical chance, and aiming time are all good, but not the best. If you are in a tight spot, and are a high level shooter, nothing will clear a small horde as efficiently and quickly, without drawing a much larger horde from far away, as the 1911. Sound radius is 40 tiles.
-The D-E pistol is simple. If you have a high shooting level, it will almost always kill a zombie in one shot, assuming you have taken the time to line up the shot. It is not the fastest, nor is it the quietest, but if you want to plink at zombie heads from a range that is unbecoming of a handgun, the D-E is your gun. At lower levels, however, this is one of the worst firearms in the game, with a low hit chance, low crit chance, and low aiming time. Sound radius is 50 tiles.
D-E and M9 pistols have changed icons. Can this be fixed?
Got a message from someone asking about fixing a typo impacting the sound of the m16. If anyone wants to edit/change/fix anything in this mod, Feel free to reupload your own version! I will probably not be returning to zomboid for a while, and I made this just for our own server, so I have no issues with others using it in anyway they want.
Is this mod compatible with britas weapons pack
Gus 3 Feb, 2023 @ 5:23am
It's usable, I don't think I've ever stopped using this mod lol
It could use some updates and balancing, but it's already a lot better than the Vanilla as it is right now.
I will probably update it eventually, just no ETA. I do love project zomboid, just haven't gotten into it in a while, but i'm sure eventually my friends and I will play again and I will update this mod just for our own private server.
