SS Magnetic

The Magnetic was a passenger tender of the White Star Line built in 1891. She was laid down at the Harland and Wolff Shipyards in Belfast, Ireland. She was built by Harland and Wolff and launched on 28th March 1891, being delivered to the White Star Line on 6th June 1891. She was used at the Port of Liverpool and upon her completion, mainly took passengers to White Star's various ocean liners, including the Majestic and the Teutonic. She was present at the 1897 Spithead Review as tender to the Teutonic. When the White Star Line completed the RMS Baltic in 1903, Magnetic was used almost exclusively as her tender, and was pictured alongside the Olympic and Titanic in a photograph, which was the last time Olympic and Titanic were side-by-side.

The Magnetic served for the White Star Line from 1891 to 1932, and on the 17th February, 1915, she collided with the schooner Kate in the Crosby Channel; Kate sank with the loss of three of her four crew members. On 3rd of October, 1925, a fire broke out on board Magnetic, and she was beached and later repaired at Liverpool, she was then sold by White Star in December 1932 to the Alexandra Towing Company, of Liverpool, and renamed the Ryde. She resumed her usual duties and was present at the opening of No.2 Stanlow Oil Dock in the Manchester Ship Canal in 1933. She was based at Llandudno from 1934, and was used as an excursion steamer, she was then sold to ship breakers on the 20th of October, 1935, and was scrapped at Port Glasgow.


This ship took around a week of building, mostly research on the few photographs of her I could find.
She has an accurate length and beam, along with the correct amount of windows and portholes, this is the most accurate I can make her.
