Description
This mod intends to add immersion and interactivity between a liege and the powerful vassals in his realm. With this mod, the top 2 most powerful vassals in Kingdoms and Empires will form their own personal factions such as "Faction of Duke John" etc. They will then set focuses and goals for their faction. These goals, usually, have nothing to do with the liege but rather are intended to somehow enhance the influence and status of the powerful vassal within the realm. Afterall, these factions are just abstract representations of that vassal's influence in the realm.

FEATURES
  • The top 2 most powerful vassals in Kingdoms and Empires will create their own personalized factions, and set focuses and goals. Both the AI and the player can create these factions.
  • These factions are a representation of that ruler's influence within the realm.
  • The faction leader will then set a Focus for the faction. A focus can only be changed after 10 years. Then every year the faction leader will hold a meeting with all the faction members to discuss progress.
  • Focuses available:
    • Glory
    • Prosperity
    • Faith
  • After setting a Focus, the leader will choose a short-term goal for the faction. Currently available goals:
  • Glory Focus Goals:
    • Attack a Neighboring Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Faction Assisted War Casus Belli that can be used to attack a neighboring realm and usurp a de jure duchy area.
    • Oust Foreigners from Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Casus Belli that can be used to attack your liege's vassals who belong to a different culture group than you and your liege. Usurps all demesne titles of the target.
    • Improve Public Image: If successful, gives a modifier that increases general opinion for several years.
  • Prosperity Focus Goals:
    • Establish a Trade Route: If successful, establishes a "faction trade route" in all the demesne provinces of the faction leader and faction members increasing the tax income.
    • Establish a New Settlement: The leader can ask faction members to contribute Wealth at the faction meeting. Will be successful if a new holding is constructed in the faction leader's demesne.
    • Increaese Prosperity: If successful, increases the prosperity of all demesne provinces of the faction leader and faction members.
  • Faith Focus Goals:
    • Attack an Infidel Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful Faction Assisted Holy War casus belli that can be used to attack a neighboring infidel realm and usurp a de jure duchy area.
    • Oust Infidels from Realm: The leader can ask faction members to pledge war support at the faction meeting. Gives a powerful casus belli that can be used to attack your liege's vassal who belongs to a different religion group than you and your liege. Usurps all demesne titles of the target.
    • Convert a Province Religion: If successful, converts one of your demesne province's religion to your religion.
  • A goal is considered failed if it is not accomplished within 10 years.
  • Accomplishing the goal will increase the faction members' opinion of their leader. Whereas, failing or abandoning goals will decrease their opinion.
  • A powerful vassal who leads such a faction can also make some special demands from the liege every few years:
    • Demand Council Position: The powerful vassal can demand that he be granted his rightful position on the liege's council.
    • Demand release of family from prison: The powerful vassal can demand that the liege releases all of his family members that the liege currently has imprisoned.
    • If the liege refuses any demand, the faction leader's as well as all members' opinion of the liege will reduce. If the liege complies, the opinion will increase.
  • The AI will choose a focus and goal depending on its personality, but there is still some random factor as well.

Note: The casus belli above CANNOT be used by a character to attack his religious head.

COMPATIBILITY
  • Compatible with ALL mods! This includes overhaul mods such as HIP and CK2+.
  • Can be added to save-games. Not sure about removing from save-games though!
  • Disables Achievements.

I've had this mod active for awhile, and finally got around doing a vassal game in the Kingdom of France (1066 start). I've tried to look for it in the factions window, but I cannot find where I can start my own "powerful vassal" faction.

I'm the top vassal in the realm tree, so it should be there.

do you think you can make the mod add a loyalist focus or another mod about this

@ThatOneCelt: No I did not make it for CK3 yet. I am busy modding other games right now, I may do CK3 modding at some point.

Does this mod exist for ck3 ?

Using HIP (and a plethora of other mods), I had six powerful vassal factions.

@w296131063: The powerful vassals are chosen based on the same criteria that base CK2 uses for determining powerful vassals for council positions. I think this is based on "realm size", and not military size. So, I believe that the two vassals with the largest realm sizes will be able to create factions.

@NU-DOG: The wars from the faction will create truces and they cannot be declared on people the attacker has truces with. You may be referring to a situation where the truce is with a vassal and not with the liege, in which case the war can be declared on the liege for the titles of the character the attacker has truce with. This is a problem with how CK2 handles war declarations and probably there are other mods which change this interaction. I hope I understood your problem correctly and have given a useful answer.

I love this mod! But one thing I'm rather confused about is how the powerful Vassals are chosen? I play as a duke and at first I was able to create factions, but then two other dukes who were able to create power factions, I can't created faction anymore, but I clearly had more troops than them, so it's not just based on strength to decide who is eligible to create a power faction? And what are the criteria? Thank you very much!

Biggest issue is that the power factions seem to have no truce limits on wars. My poor tributary got attacked 3 times by the same empire back to back since the truce of the liege didn't apply for them

@Zenmori: Yes that is working as intended. At every faction meeting the total stewardship score of the faction members is calculated and based on this score a chance is calculated for a faction trade route to be established. The higher the score, the higher the chance. If you have no faction member, then there is no chance for a faction trade route. So either the stewardship score of your faction members is very low, which causes the chance to be very low or you have had a sequence of unlucky years.
