Description
What does this mod do ?

This small mod aims to nerf lords and heroes that are both good casters and fighters, by reducing their defenses while casting.

To achieve that, I added a new effect to every lords & heroes, that reduces their melee defence by 30 while casting (for around 10s)

Currently this nerf is only effective in campaign, since you can't buff them as much in custom battles.

Why should I install this mod?

1 - It nerfs powerhouses like Mannfred, the fay enchantress etc.
2 - It encourages you to protect your mages and focus theirs while they are casting.
3 - Muh realism

Side notes

Compatible with any mod, even the ones adding new heroes and such.
Isn't likely to break after updates.
Multiplayer compatible, can be added or removed mid game.

Great Idea, and i agree that possibly switching it to an attack debuff while mounted would work well also. The only mages I might exclude from this, lore wise at least, would be chaos, as on tabletop they're total beasts that can do both extremely well, which is why they cost much higher, although CA kind of nerfed them already. For them, I could see maybe instead of a combat stat debuff, possibly using an XP debuff, so that they possibly need more to level up to reflect that they are learning both combat and magic, if possible to do so. As they are currently nerfed though, this would only imo be needed if they were also buffed, like maybe adding 30% to combat stats while also subtracting 30% from xp gain. great new idea though! cheers!

Ah I see, I was just thinking of a realism version of this same effect, not to the actual OP-ness of the unit itself.

From an RP perspective I do like the idea of a caster channeling or conjuring such a destructive spell to be vulnerable, but think that in the case of riding atop a monstrous mount, they would be in a better position.

But the base purpose of this mod is to nerf lords & heroes that are casters and good fighters. Mannfred mounted on a terrorgheist definitely fall in this category. Moreso than if he were on foot.

I could reduce the effect and put a melee attack malus that lasts longer, so that it doesn't nerf defence capabilities too much while reducing the raw killing power of those units.

Could this mod lose the effect when the lord is mounted on their top available mount?

I absolutely love the idea of it, but if my Skink on a Stegadon is casting, the Steg is protecting/fighting, while the mage is in a defended position.

Same with Mannfred, while on his dragon, he is afforded some defense.

I don't know if its possible, but maybe halfing, or reducing the negative effect when they are on their mount seems cool.

I tried several effects, the problem with the miscast chance is the rng. The miscast effects can wipe your lord in a few spells if you have a bad streak.

It will work better if it increases miscast chance if in combat :)
