Karlshorst, Main-Building

Description
Karlshorst, Main-Building

Berlin-Karlshorst. Complex built in neoclassical style from 1936-38. Was used in the following years by the German „Wehrmacht“ as „Pioneer School I“. In the post-war years it was used by the Soviet army and its intelligence. After the complete withdrawal of the Soviet Army in 1994, the site was vacant for 16 years and increasingly decayed. In the years 2010-14, the buildings were gradually renovated and new apartment buildings were built. The entire site is now a listed building, as it is the last base originally built for the German „Wehrmacht“.

My motivation for this set is to simulate the urban conversion. With the withdrawal of the former occupying powers (since 1990) and the change in defense technology, many barracks areas were abandoned. The former military areas with their historical buildings were became civil settlements. The former barracks were renovated. Mixtures of living and working, old and new emerged. Urban conversion is still a hot topic in German cities today. I also wanted to simulate the urban planning issue of conversion in my „Aspethera“ project. After doing some research, I decided to go to the Karlshorst building-complex in Berlin. The facility consists of an auditorium building, gatehouse and originally 4 house-types to accommodate the pioneer students. While the auditorium building and gatehouse are very close to the originals, two exemplarily created outbuildings are implemented a little more freely with regard to the windows and entrances.

Here I was fascinated by the architecture of the main-building (auditorium building). The mark of the former lecture hall building of the pioneer school with its monumental portal construction. Renovated in 2010ff, the elongated balconies were added to make it attractive for residential use. The roof windows were also only added as part of the renovations.

Thank you very much Titan, who gave me advice. Special thanks to SvenBerlin, actively involved in general corrections and the creation of the illumination-map.

I know that this isn't what it is, but I don't care. I'm using this as an Insane Asylum ;)

@all. Vielen Dank. Thank you. Dank u wel.
@N2J. Der Assetbau selber hat recht gut geklappt. Die vielen Fenster kosten im UVMapping halt sehr viel Zeit.
@The Lost Cake. I think you are right. I thinks it´s typical, too.

@AmiPolizeiFunk
I was thinking about the "Deutsch-Russisches Museum", too. In principle, other buildings from the context of Karlshorst would also be considered.
However, in my city "Aspethera" there are more urgent vacant lots that need to be filled. These are therefore a priority. Sorry. Although Berlin motifs are certainly allowed here and there ...
