Above Water Biomes
  • Delta Island
-Located centrally in the map, directly south of your starting point in the game.
-A great place to find crystalline sulfur.
-The island itself is safe but the waters around it are patrolled by the cryptosuchus.
-Contains Delta Station and the communications tower.
  • Glacial Basin
-Located south of Delta Island and accessed via the Glacial Connection and Glacial Bay.
-Some resource outcrops are here, but generally not the best place to gather resources.
    -Snow stalkers and iceworms galore.
-Contains the frozen leviathan and Parvan's bunker, as well as the Phi Robotics Center.
  • Arctic Spires
-To the north of the Glacial Basin.
-Most of the same resources as the Glacial Basin.

-Many basic resources are here, like titanium, copper, and quartz.
    -Very safe.
  • Arctic Creepvine Forest
-Again similar to the creepvine forest in the original Subnautica. Found scattered around the Shallow Twisty Bridges.
-Many basic resources here along with creepvine seed clusters and silver.
-Safe, but watch out for sea monkeys, which steal your items.
  • Twisty Bridges
-A deeper version of the Shallow Twisty Bridges which contains some extra resources such as gold and table coral. Oxygen plants can help you reach some deeper areas within this biome.
-Again relatively safe, but watch out for brute sharks and crashfish.
    -Contains Sanctuary Zero.
  • Sparse Arctic
-Located in a crescent shape towards the north of the Twisty Bridges.
-Pretty sparse, as the name suggests. A good place to get salt.

Below Zero's Special Foods
Unlike in Subnautica where weather didn't exist and where a medkit fabricator meant access to easy health, Subnautica Below Zero does have weather, and no medkit fabricators. Because of this, some specialized food sources were added to the game to balance the cold and health in the game.

Below is a list of these food sources:
  • Thermos
-The thermos can be filled with coffee from a coffee machine, and is fabricated using titanium and glass.
-When a full thermos is consumed, 2 water will be subtracted and 50 heat will be gained. An empty thermos is left behind. Currently a thermos cannot be half full; even if you don't need all the heat, all of the coffee will be consumed regardless.
-Unlike in Subnautica, the coffee machine can only be used to fill a thermos, and cannot give coffee directly.
  • Fevered Pepper
-Picked from fevered pepper trees; gives 15 of both food and water.
    -Restores 34 heat.
  • Lantern Fruit
-Just like in Subnautica, the lantern fruit is a mediocre food source but now it restores 75 heat as well.
  • Leafy Fruit
-Leafy fruit is picked from leafy fruit plants on Delta Island.
-As well as being a mediocre food source, it restores 10 health.
  • Antennae Fruit
-The Antennae Plant grows in the Lilypad Islands; each plant has a single fruit on top.
-Each fruit gives 20 food, 5 water, and restores 9 health.
  • Spicy Fruit Salad
-Spicy fruit salad is by far the best food in the game. It is fabricated with one snow stalker fruit leaf and one heat fruit.
-When eaten, it restores 85 food, 30 water, and 100 heat. Spicy fruit salads do not go bad over time.

One last interesting feature added in Subnautica Below Zero is the fridge. It is made with glass and titanium using the habitat builder and can be used to store foods that would normally rot (like cooked fish) indefinitely. Food will begin the rotting cycle immediately once removed from the fridge.
Cold/Temperature Mechanics
The cold and weather is one of the only brand new game mechanics that are different from the original Subnautica. Here is a short section explaining the ins and outs of this game mechanic.

Your temperature meter is alongside your food, water, and health meters, and switches places with the oxygen meter when you are out of the water. Once your temperature goes down to zero, you will get frostbite and start dying. Like oxygen loss, you will not die immediately but instead soon after your cold meter gets to zero.

A few factors make your temperature go up or down. Just like in real life, exercise increases your body temperature (i.e. you won't get cold as fast while you're moving). Also, exposure to the air cools you down, so staying underwater is always safer in terms of temperature.

Natural heat sources, such as thermal vents, lava geysers, hot springs, and the purple vents will heat you up. Thermal lilies, found on Delta Island, will also warm you up when you get close to them.

Finally, there are a few different food sources and craftable items which can increase your temperature. The cold suit, which is made from fiber mesh and snow stalker fur, increases your resistance to cold temperatures. Spicy fruit salad, fevered peppers, lantern fruit, and thermoses of coffee all instantly increase your temperature.

The Seatruck and Snowfox: A Quick Guide
The Seatruck
The Seatruck is Subnautica Below Zero's smaller equivalent to Subnautica's Cyclops. Like the cyclops, the seatruck can be used as a mobile base. Unlike the cyclops, the seatruck is modular. This means that each thing you want to put on the seatruck (a fabricator, storage room, prawn suit docking area, etc.) has to be unlocked, built, and added separately.

Less modules means a faster, smaller, and more maneuverable vehicle, but less utility. Below is a rundown of each module, what they do, and how important they are.

  • Aquarium Module
-Picks up fish from the surrounding water as you drive the seatruck.
-Has one aquarium on each side. This is a good source for passively getting fish for food.
-One of the only ways to safely capture Symbiote fish.
  • Docking Module
-Must be the last module on the seatruck.
-Can dock a prawn suit to it; similar to the docking bay from Subnautica's Cyclops.
  • Fabricator Module
-Has a special fabricator and a storage spot which can hold 12 items inside.
-The fabricator inside this module can craft seatruck upgrades as well as standard items.
  • Sleeper Module
-This module comes with a bed, a jukebox, and a picture frame. That's it.
  • Cargo Module
-Contains 5 separate lockers, adding up to a storage space of 52 slots.
  • Teleportation Module
-A special module which must be used alongside a Tether Tool.
-Using a Tether Tool teleports you back into your seatruck teleportation module, no matter how far away you are.
-The Tether Tool is powered with ion cubes, taking one cube for every three teleports.

When I play, I usually use a fabricator module always, then I choose which other modules to add depending what I'm doing. If I'm collecting resources, I take a cargo module; and if I'm going exploring (especially in dangerous areas) I take a docking module and a teleportation module.

The Snowfox
Because much more time is spent on land in Below Zero than in the original Subnautica, we now have a land-only vehicle: the Snowfox hoverbike!

The snowfox is built and customized on the snowfox hoverpad. It hovers over the ground, and will not work in the water. It is deployable, meaning that it can be packed into your inventory; it takes up 9 inventory slots.

You can press your sprint key to give your snowfox a short speed boost. While moving on the snowfox is faster than walking, it isn't faster than ice worms, leaving you vulnerable, though less so, in the Arctic Spires.

The snowfox has one upgrade slot and two available upgrades. First, the Snowfox Jump Module allows the snowfox to make small hops over normally slow or impassable terrain. Second, the Snowfox Ice Worm Attack Reduction Module reduces the amount of ice worm attacks by magical methods currently unknown.

The chinese potato can also be found in the Mercury (don't remember which part, though). I definitely had it before meeting Marguerite

Not sure if this has been pointed out yet, but two things.
A) The Alien Containment Unit hasn't been mentioned--it's located in the Mercury II Bow section.
B)Many other items (e.g. Water Filtration Machine, Multipurpose Room Glass Dome, Coffee Machine) can be found at Outpost Zero in addition to other places. Feel like pointing out scannables there would be a massive help since it's pretty easy to access early on in the game.
Hope this feedback helps!

There's another databox other than the rebreather in the twisty bridges, and it's the high cap tank. Looks like that bit was a tad out of date and you can no longer just unlock the rebreather to get it - the guide has now been updated. Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for pointing that out.

So I'm trying to find the high capacity O2 tank. I've unlocked the rebreather and have scanned 2 uhc fragments in nests. Am I missing something?

I didn't do an extensive playthrough guide for this one like I did for my Subnautica guide purely because it just wasn't as fun to me...I couldn't bring myself to do a full playthrough of it more than once. I just simply don't know as much about this game as I did for the original.

Unfortunate but true, I guess.
