Wrath of Sparta Unique Units

Description
This is a small unit mod for Wrath of Sparta that I developed alongside my Crest, Sandals, and Shields mod, but didn't include because that mod covers only the vanilla units. There are only five units included in this mod, but I think they are important additions to spice up the campaign.

-Athenian Elite Marines - for Athenai-

I felt like the Athenians not having a single unique unit was kind of a missed opportunity because they are the counterpart to Sparta and should have a flavor of their own. Because Athen's strength was on the sea, I gave them a unique Marine unit that is better than any other Naval units in the campaign. They are based on the Picked Hoplites unit, though a little more powerful and can be recruited from level 4 ports, or as an admiral's bodyguard.

-Athenian Archer Marines - for Athenai-

As with the Athenian Elite Marines, I wanted to give Athenai more personality and advantages in naval battles. They come equipped with a linothorax, and are similar to Mercenary Kretan Archers in stats, the justification for this was that Athens had a lot of wealth from their overseas colonies; they can be recruited from level 4 ports.

-Theban Picked Hoplites - for Boiotian League-

One of the most iconic military units from ancient Greece was the Theban Sacred Band, but they didn't officially exist yet at the time of the Peloponnesian War. As a compromise, I have given them the name "Theban Picked Hoplites" instead, but they still retain the unique flavor and spirit of the Sacred Band. They are based on the stats of the Royal Spartans unit (for Sparta) because the Sacred Band was similarly elite, but you can only recruit 2 units of them because historically there were only 300 men in the Sacred Band, (though in this mod you will be able to have 320.) You can recruit them from level 4 military buildings.

-Korinthian Elite Marines - for Korinthos-

Similar to the Athenian Elite Marines, but not quite as powerful, though still more powerful than Armoured Marines. As the inventors of the Trireme, I felt Korinthos also deserved to have a unique naval unit, even though they didn't create the maritime empire that Athens did. They are based on the Picked Hoplites unit and can be recruited from level 4 ports, or as an admiral's bodyguard.

-Syracusan Armoured Marines - for Sparta-

I think that not adding Sicily to the Wrath of Sparta campaign was a missed opportunity since some of the Peloponnesian War took place there. For the sake of including Syracuse in the campaign, Sparta has access to Syracusan Armoured Marines (which are better than normal Armoured Marines), because Syracuse was a Spartan ally and provided a navy to fight the Athenians. There is a recruitment limit of 4 to represent the limited amount of Syracusan involvement, and because I didn't want Sparta to become superior on the sea. They can be recruited from level 4 ports.

This mod can be used alongside my other mod, and I encourage you to do so because when subscribed to both, it gives these two units an improved appearance, similar to the units in that mod.

I hope you enjoy the mod, and let me know if you have comments, criticism, or suggestions.

Thank You,

Pizzaman6

You can add Boeotian Helmets with crests to Theban picked Hoplites for viery and historical accuracy

Could you perhaps give the Theban Picked Hoplites the Hoplite Wall ability?

hi nice mod

Yeah I’ll think about a “Korinthian Noble Hoplites” unit that is superior to Picked Hoplites, but inferior to Royal Spartans, with maybe a cap of 4. I need more Land units in this mod, 4/5 have ended up naval units.

I've added veteran hoplites for all greeks and a special variant for Konrithos in my WoS unit mod to fill the gap between hoplites and picked hoplites. However, especially adding unique naval units is a great idea!

I think it's not unhistorical to create a Korinthian elite hoplite unit formed by Korinthian nobles, maybe with a unit cap. Give them good armour and cloaks. But they should be weaker as royal Spartans because Spartan soldiers were superior due to their well known agoge [en.wikipedia.org].

A sword would be possible to, but the kopis came later in age and all greek melee units in the DLC are spear infantry.

I'll have to think about whether I want to implement something like that. Do you have any suggestions for a Korinthian (or any other faction) special unit? I'm trying to keep them sensible and reasonably historic. There are a lot of other WoS mods that go crazy with overly "badass" units, but my goal is to add flavor to a mostly bland campaign. I see that you are doing something similar with your new mod.
