Stuart Island

Description
STUART ISLAND
WASHINGTON, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
48° 31’ N, 125° 12’ W

Welcome to Stuart Island, a 5 x 5 km island terrain off the coast of Washington US covered in thick forests and torn apart by a brief conflict between unidentified Russian-aligned forces, island natives and the US during the disease outbreak.

I begun the development of the terrain back in December 2018 and have now finally had the time and resources to bring it to a playable state in December 2019, so it's been roughly a year of hard work with it. This is only partly true because this terrain is somewhat based on the original open source files I released for Stuart Island in 2015 for Arma 3. Some things are still not 100% finished, such as the wildlife, some misplaced objects, objects connecting the islands and there are still some quite empty areas around the islands.

Stuart Island is very loosely based on the real world island off the coast of Washington US, though this fictional island is very different from the real world namesake, and the events happening on the islands in the lore are purely fictional. The terrain is intentionally relatively small, as I believe that this can serve a great purpose for many low population servers and game modes that can benefit from greater player interaction.

Hopefully you'll enjoy it!

Server Owners
All server files are included in the mod itself. You can just run a mission with an init script, and the mod will load up the necessary files, or you can place the files from ce.pbo into the mission folder to make modifications. I'd be more than happy to hear that your server is using Stuart Island, but I do not provide tech support for setting up a server for it.

Bugs
If you happen to find any bugs, please report them in the "Discussions" section on workshop, there's a thread for bugs. I may or may not fix any bugs.

Assets
The Stuart Island uses a few custom assets from the Stuart Island Props package which include a car model created by Pryme3d[www.cgtrader.com] on CGTrader. Please check their work out if you're looking for some 3D models!

License & Open source
So here's my proposition: How about instead of a long list of requirements from me for you to be able to use this map, I just said "you can do pretty much whatever you want with it"?

Stuart Island is open sourced as a conscious effort to give people more resources for learning new things about modding.
It is licensed under the MIT License. The Stuart Island Props package is licensed differently, as the car model (in car.pbo) from Pryme3D is licensed under CGTrader Royalty Free license.

Lore
In the 1950s and 60s, during the height of the red scare in America, immigration was also hitting its peaks. This included citizens - refugees - from post-war Europe, including many that flew the Soviet flag.

Much like Angel Island, and its counterpart Ellis Island on the East Coast, Stuart Island WA became one of a few islands used for the inspection, disinfection, and detainment of these immigrants, mostly of Soviet and Asian descent. Due to the wave of paranoia regarding communism that spread like wildfire, some of these citizens found themselves in limbo; marked as agents of the very state that views them as traitors. Left to their own devices, they began to use the tools at their disposal to build more permanent residences. The island became a sort of cultural anomaly; a hub of Eastern European culture on the shores of the Western world.

The island's detainment project fell out of favor as tensions eased between the West and the Soviets, and was completely shuttered in 1986. It was left mostly dormant until '94, when it was suggested for it to be turned into a national park - a time capsule, of sorts. This was only 6 years before the area was targeted by companies doing oil and mineral excavation inquiries.

To everyone’s surprise, the inquiries yielded results and in the early 2000s, oil corporations, with heavy ties to Russia, bought the rights to a few oil sites near the coast of Stuart Island. The same companies also bought the rights to a quarry on the island itself. Stuart Island was also chosen to be the storage for the oil before it was transported elsewhere. The companies built up a sizable industrial area and harbor on the island to use for storage and shipment of their goods.

Quickly, there was a surge of new inhabitants to the island, who came to work on the quarry and the industrial area. The island’s population grew quickly and thus the city of Stuart (or as the new and old Russian population called it, Стюарт) became about to house the new workers. The vast majority of the population was of Russian descent and the most common language after English was Russian.

In early 2016 pictures surfaced online of “little green men” on Stuart Island, similar to the ones witnessed invading Crimea in 2014. It didn’t take long for the conspiracy theories to run rampant online. The companies owning the quarry and the oil drilling sites commented on the pictures saying “These armed guards are situated on our company premises, ensuring safe working conditions for our workers.”

It didn’t take long for the US military to deploy national guard and army on Stuart Island. They set up two semi-permanent FOBs, one at the Stuart Island airstrip and the other on Spieden Island, just next to Stuart Island. The island population quickly grew unsatisfied of the way the American soldiers treated them and started protesting. As the civil unrest grew higher on the island, more and more pictures were spread online.

Eventually, in 2017, the conflict became more hot than cold. The little green men started restricting access of American citizens of the island to come over to the northern part of the island altogether. The troops deployed on the island started clashing with the little green men, and the US grew even more interested in the island than before. Because the infection had started spreading around the same time, it was hard for the US to spend a lot of resources trying to control the situation on the island. Even more little green men and some heavy equipment were deployed on the island as the conflict became hotter. As the infection spread to mainland US, the West Coast islands, like Stuart Island became one of the last places that the infection reached. Thus the island became a safe haven of sorts until it too was hit by the infection.

Disclaimer: The dates are somewhat arbituary, and should be taken with a grain of salt when interpreted with the somewhat non-existent official DayZ lore. All events, places and entities are fictitious and similarities between any real world events, places or entities are coincidental and non-relevant.

Hey um, it's my first time making a DayZ server for me and my friends and I'm struggling to set up the map, i put everything in the mpmissions folder in DayZServer and followed countless YouTube tutorials but there seems to be missing crucial .map files and other code from the mod folder, i couldn't get it to work from using the source code either from gitlab, so I'm wondering how do i actually download the map cause the folder is only a few kilobytes for me with only stuff like init.c and economy.xml

I don't have any at hand, but there are various tutorials out there that you should be able to find through Google, both in video and text format :)

Do you have some sort of tutorials on map making, or can recommend one? Tia!
